The Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the field on Monday for one of the two Monday Night Football games. The Bucs have gotten off to a fast start this season with a 5-1 record, but have a tough test on Monday, traveling to Detroit to face the Lions. One issue the Bucs have faced this season has been the health of their wide receivers.
Mike Evans has been out since Week 3, and Chris Godwin will miss this game with a fibula injury. The Bucs have had to rely on some young receivers to keep the offense afloat, and they have done well so far. Emeka Egbuka has been one of the breakout players in the NFL, and just last game, two players broke out in Tez and Kameron Johnson. It is easy to think those two might be related, but their backstories are much different.
The Johnson and Johnson Brothers Hope to Make A Name for Themselves
Tez and Kameron Johnson are not related, but they do have a strong relationship from their time on the Buccaneers. Tez was drafted in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft, while Kameron was signed as an undrafted free agent.
But they both have been given an opportunity to play this year due to the aforementioned injuries to the Bucs’ wide receivers.
In the Buccaneers’ Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers, both Johnsons caught their first career touchdowns. According to NFL Network, Tez labeled themselves the “Johnson and Johnson brothers.” He said, ” Our games are similar. Obviously, he’s a little bit bigger, a little beefier than me. But that’s my dawg. I love him.”

Both Johnsons came through in a big way for the Bucs last week, and they will likely be called on again if the injuries continue to ravage the Buccaneers’ pass catchers.
The Johnson Brothers’ Different Paths to the NFL
Kameron was not a player anyone expected to play a role in the NFL this season, especially being an undrafted rookie from Barton College. The odds are certainly stacked against a player like that who did not go against top competition and was likely not scouted as an NFL prospect.
However, he has turned himself into an NFL contributor in a short amount of time, and that has been astounding.
As for Tez, he went to the University of Oregon, one of the top college football programs in the nation. But his size is why he was overlooked during the NFL draft. He fell to the seventh round mostly because he is only 165lbs, and that is usually too small for an NFL wide receiver.
Tez has a unique story, as he was adopted by the family of Bo Nix during their time at Oregon together. Now, he and Nix get the opportunity to compete against each other in the NFL, which must be a dream for their family.
