‘I Find It Very Offensive’ — Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel Breaks Silence on Possibility of Getting Fired

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel addressed questions about his job security as his team slid to a 1-6 record.

All the initial magic Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel brought to the franchise appears to have run out in the wake of Week 7’s 31-6 road loss to the Cleveland Browns.

McDaniel’s dynamic scheme has evidently gone stale, as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and was benched for rookie seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers once the game was out of hand. Dolphins fans might be more inclined to blame GM Chris Grier for a lackluster roster. However, McDaniel’s ability to lead the locker room is in serious question amid speculation that he’s next among the NFL’s head coaching fraternity to be fired.

Media members asked the always-candid McDaniel about his future in Miami after Sunday’s outcome, and he did his best to take the high road.

What Did Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel Say About His Job Security?

McDaniel’s press conferences have gone from electrifying stand-up comedy routines to perpetually tough crowds. When a reporter asked McDaniel how he felt about his job status, he intimated that worrying about it wouldn’t do any good for anyone.

“I find it very offensive to all parties involved if I’m thinking about having the job,” McDaniel said. “I need to be doing my job, so for as long as I coach for the Miami Dolphins and this organization, they’ll get everything from me, and I refuse to spend my time thinking about something that — you have a job, you do your job, and you do it to the best of your ability.

“And that’s where my concern lies. … I think it’s offensive to all coaches, players, and the organization if I’m spending that precious time thinking about myself.”

The Dolphins have slid back to 1-6, and McDaniel could be dismissed by owner Stephen Ross at any time. The 2025 season has been a disaster for Miami, but as the cliché goes, what’s done is done. All McDaniel and his coaching staff can do is focus on the next game and try to string together one good practice after another.

Now, with all that said in relative defense of McDaniel, the Fins’ on-field product is indefensible. He’s had a revolving door of defensive coordinators each season since he took the reins in 2022. Nothing seems to be sticking under Anthony Weaver’s leadership this year.

The huge selling point of McDaniel’s hiring was his brilliant offensive mind. Tagovailoa’s multiple concussions and other nagging injuries haven’t helped, but the organization hitched its wagon to the young quarterback on a $212.4 million contract.

McDaniel has helped Tagovailoa develop into a passable starter, but in the midst of Tyreek Hill’s season-ending injury and other roster flaws, the weaknesses of the QB and head coach continue to be exposed.
