The Los Angeles Rams (4-2) and Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) are facing off in London Sunday morning.
This was expected to be a close-fought battle, but thus far the Rams are dominating the Jaguars. With almost the first half in the books, Los Angeles leads 21-0, and Jacksonville’s offense is greatly struggling to gain any sort of momentum. The first touchdown came from an unfamiliar face, Konata Mumpfield, who recorded his first career score.
However, the second and third were caught by future Hall of Famer Davante Adams, who made NFL history with the first TD.
Davante Adams Moves Up on All-Time Receiving TD List
Adams caught a two-yard fade route touchdown late in the first quarter against the Jaguars to give his team a two-possession lead. Not only was this huge for the game, but also for Adams’ career.
This was the 107th touchdown of his career, which gives him sole ownership of the No. 9 slot on the all-time receiving touchdowns list. Prior to the Jaguars game, he shared this spot with Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans. Adams will now chase all-time great tight end Tony Gonzalez, who recorded 111 career touchdowns.
Adams clearly isn’t running out of steam, so there’s a chance he moves up much further on this prestigious list.
Adams racked up the vast majority of these touchdowns during his extensive tenure with Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball on the Green Bay Packers. From 2014 to 2021, Adams tallied 73 touchdowns with the Packers.
Since departing from Green Bay, the 32-year-old has turned into a bit of a journeyman. He spent two rather successful seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, adding 221 receptions, 2,869 receiving yards, and 23 touchdowns to his resume.
He was then dealt to the New York Jets, where he briefly reunited with Rodgers. He appeared in 11 games for the Jets, putting up 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. If there’s one factor Adams prefers in his teams, it’s familiarity with the quarterback. He joined the Raiders partially because he played alongside then Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in college.
Now, Adams finds himself in Los Angeles on a two-year, $46 million contract. While he wasn’t familiar with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford prior to joining the team, there’s no question the duo spent much time together building chemistry on the field. Entering the matchup against the Jaguars, Adams had 26 receptions for 396 yards and three touchdowns.
With WR1 Puka Nacua sidelined against Jacksonville, Adams will need to fill that role to the best of his ability and he certainly is so far.
