Is Jacory Croskey-Merritt Injured? Breaking Down the Commanders RB’s Slow Start vs. Bears in Week 6

After getting thrust into action due to injuries, Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt did not have a great start vs. Bears on MNF in Week 6.

While there was some chatter coming into the season, Washington Commanders seventh-round running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt was a relative unknown coming into the 2025 season. Unfortunately, the Commanders lost Austin Ekeler in Week 2, allowing Croskey-Merritt to show off his skills.

The rookie has gotten off to an impressive start as a seventh-round pick, but has struggled against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 6.

What Happened to Washington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt?

Croskey-Merritt, or “Bill” as teammates call him, had quite the Week 1 outing, turning ten carries into 82 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut. While he was able to score against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, fans would have to wait until Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers to see an outing of that magnitude, as the rookie ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns a week ago.

However, the young back also had the ball on the ground for the first time this season. While it didn’t cost them against the Chargers, he did it again against the Bears early on Monday Night Football in Week 6. The dynamic back has not found much space either, as before the Commanders’ second-to-last drive of the first half, he had rushed for 13 yards on five carries.

Croskey-Merritt was able to add 15 more yards and a reception for seven yards on a solid drive for Washington late in the second quarter, but the Commanders would not be able to turn it into points as Matt Gay missed a 50-yard field goal.

Thankfully for the Commanders, the game is not out of reach. They are only down 13-7 heading into the locker room at halftime. They are going to need their offense to wake up and have their playmakers start contributing if they want to build on their 3-2 start to the season.

Things could have been worse with two turnovers and the missed field goal, but with the football back at the start of the second half, Washington has the opportunity to come out of the locker room and set the tone in the third quarter.

A strong showing could go a long way, and with Croskey-Merritt picking up steam towards the end of the first half, he looks primed to break off a big run. The Commanders hope to see some explosives on display in Los Angeles a week ago.
