Jessica Pegula humorously shared that she turned to drinking beer after losing to Coco Gauff in the final of the 2025 Wuhan Open. This match marked their seventh encounter on the WTA Tour, with Gauff improving her head-to-head record to three wins and four losses against Pegula.
Alongside her singles campaign at the WTA 1000 hard court tournament in Wuhan, Pegula also participated in the doubles event with compatriot Ashlyn Krueger. In the first round, they faced the eventual champion pair of Storm Hunter and Kateřina Siniaková and lost 6-1, 6-0.

Pegula was seeded sixth at the 2025 Wuhan Open and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated compatriot Hailey Baptiste and Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second and third rounds.
In the quarterfinals, the former World No. 3 eliminated qualifier Kateřina Siniaková, winning 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. She secured her spot in the final by defeating the top seed and three-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2).
In the championship match, Pegula faced third seed Coco Gauff and finished as the runner-up after losing 4-6, 5-7.
Following her runner-up finish at the Wuhan Open, Pegula took to social media, sharing a series of pictures from the tournament and the city. In her post, the former World No. 3 humorously remarked that her performance throughout the tournament was fueled by “beer and boba.”
The 31-year-old also congratulated Gauff on her title run and expressed her gratitude to her fans in China for their love and support.

Prior to the 2025 Wuhan Open, Pegula participated in the 2025 China Open, where she reached the semifinals, losing to the eventual runner-up, Linda Nosková.

Following the conclusion of her campaign at the 2025 Wuhan Open, Pegula is expected to compete next at the 2025 Toray Pan Pacific Open, which is scheduled to take place from October 20 to October 26, 2025. The tournament’s matches will be held at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.
In addition to the former World No. 3, players like Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina, Belinda Bencic, Leylah Fernandez, Clara Tauson, and Markéta Vondroušová, among others, are also expected to compete at the WTA 500 hard court tournament in Tokyo.
Pegula’s best result at the Toray Pan Pacific Open came in 2023. She was seeded second in the tournament and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. In her opening match, she defeated Cristina Bucşa with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarterfinals, Pegula overcame sixth seed Daria Kasatkina with a dominant scoreline of 6-1, 6-0. She then secured her place in the final by eliminating fourth seed Maria Sakkari, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Pegula faced eighth seed Veronika Kudermetova and finished as the runner-up following a 5-7, 1-6 defeat.
