Coco Gauff’s recent Wuhan Open triumph coincided with a major baseball milestone achieved by her brother, Codey, making it a momentous day for the Gauff family. Their mother, Candi, expressed her joy online, celebrating her children’s remarkable achievements with pride.
As Coco shines on the global tennis stage, her brother Codey, the middle child of the family, is building his future in baseball, having showcased his skills at the Elite Squad Academy.
How Did Mother Candi Gauff React to Son Codey Gauff and Daughter Coco Gauff’s Recent Milestones?
He committed late in 2024 to play NCAA Division I baseball for the University of Missouri, beginning in the 2026 season. Before that, he represented the San Diego Padres Scout Team, recently wrapping up his final tournament with them, marking a bittersweet milestone in his baseball journey.
Notably, it marked the end of Codey’s three-year journey with the Scout Team as he now turns his focus toward NCAA Division I baseball. Their mother, Candi Gauff, commemorated the moment on Instagram, sharing a carousel of photos capturing Codey’s time in the Padres camp.
“Today was a bitter sweet moment in your baseball journey. Your last baseball tournament as a member of the San Diego Padres Scout team as a switch hitting catcher. Thank you to the coaches and organization for dedicating your time into developing Codey and his teammates over the past 3 years,” Candi Gauff read in a lengthy Instagram note.

Coco, meanwhile, returned to winning ways in Wuhan, securing her first title since conquering the French Open in June. The American claimed the WTA 1000 crown with a convincing 6-4, 7-5 victory over close friend and former doubles partner Jessica Pegula in an hour and 42 minutes. The win marked her 11th career WTA singles title and third at the WTA 1000 level.
It’s also worth noting that Gauff became only the second American, after seven-time Major champion Venus Williams, to lift the Wuhan trophy. Remarkably, she also became the first player to boast a perfect 9-0 record in hard-court finals, with all three of her career final defeats coming on clay.
Taking to her Instagram story, Candi Gauff celebrated both her children’s achievements and even congratulated Coco by leaving a heartfelt comment on one of her celebratory posts. Check out her messages below:

Gauff became the first player to win the Wuhan Open without dropping a set since the tournament began in 2014. She dropped only 25 games throughout the tournament, the lowest ever by a champion.
