What Did Coco Gauff Say After Winning the 2025 Wuhan Open Title?
After winning the 2025 Wuhan Open, Gauff delivered a winner’s speech in which she expressed her gratitude to her team for their support during the Asian swing of the Tour.
The two-time singles Grand Slam champion also spoke about her coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel, who had initially advised her not to compete in Asia due to her “tough” run at the US Open. Gauff explained that she decided to participate in the Asian swing just to prove her coach wrong, as she is a “very stubborn” person.
“I’d like to thank my team; it was a great Asian swing. I’m going to call JC out here; he originally didn’t want me to come because I had a tough US Open. But I had to prove him wrong. I’m a very stubborn person. So maybe he said that on purpose for me to have a good result here,” Gauff said.
In addition to the Wuhan Open, Gauff also competed in the 2025 China Open during the Asian swing. She was the defending champion at the tournament and reached the semifinals before losing to compatriot and eventual champion, Amanda Anisimova.
