Sixth seed Jessica Pegula will lock horns with ninth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round of the Wuhan Open. Pegula vs. Alexandrova Head-to-Head

Pegula and Alexandrova have met one another five times so far on the WTA Tour, with the Russian leading their head-to-head 3-2. Three of their encounters took place this year, with Alexandrova winning two of them. The Russian thrashed Pegula 6-0, 6-4 in their most recent encounter, which came in the quarterfinals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

Pegula vs. Alexandrova Prediction

While Pegula is the higher-ranked player, Alexandrova has produced some impressive performances so far in 2025, not to forget she has won three of her last four matches against the American. If the Russian manages to produce the kind of tennis she displayed during her run to the final of the Korea Open, she has a fair chance of coming out on top.

Pegula was not particularly impressive on her first serve in her match against Baptiste, winning 45 out of 74 points. However, she did manage five aces and will be eager to fetch as many free points as she can. The American has a solid backhand and is a brilliant mover on court, not to forget how mentally strong she can be on court.

Alexandrova has won 58 out of 80 points on her first serve so far in Wuhan, serving four aces while amassing 13 double-faults. The Russian has to be very careful not to produce too many double-faults against someone of Pegula’s quality. The 30-year-old loves to play aggressively and hits her shots with a lot of power, something she will look to do against the American from the very first point.

Each of Pegula’s last five matches have gone to three sets and she has had to grind out some hard-fought wins. There is a good chance of her match against Alexandrova following a similar route. However, if Pegula is able to hold her nerve, there is a fair chance of her beating the Russian and booking her place in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open.

Prediction: Pegula to win in three sets.
