The Kansas City Chiefs need all hands on deck on Monday night as they go up against the Jacksonville Jaguars on “Monday Night Football.”
But the team got some bad news just ahead of kickoff when they informed the public about offensive tackle Josh Simmons. It’s not good news for those who want Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes protected from the Jaguars’ defense.
What Happened to Josh Simmons?
Simmons was listed as questionable ahead of Monday night’s game with an illness. According to a post on X from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Chiefs put Simmons on their injury report.
Chiefs now have added OT Josh Simmons to their injury report and list him as questionable for tonight due to an illness.

Despite Schefter’s report, Simmons was on the field for the Chiefs’ first offensive series on Monday night.
Before Monday night’s announcement, he featured in all four of Kansas City’s games in the 2025 NFL season. While he’s a rookie, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid probably hopes that Simmons could continue to perform at a high level.
He was drafted in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. Simmons played one season at San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference. His final two seasons were at Ohio State, including having a part in the Buckeyes’ national championship team.
If Simmons can stay healthy all game long, then his presence will go a long way toward keeping Mahomes safe in the pocket. As an offensive tackle, Simmons wants to avoid any holding penalties while the Kansas City offense gets rolling.
Simmons also has to make sure that holes open up front for Mahomes and the Chiefs’ running backs. As was reported, he was listed as questionable. It’s still going to be something that the Chiefs’ medical personnel will have to monitor.
At game time, it was 77 degrees in Jacksonville, Fla., with some rain in the area. If it’s a warm, humid night on the field, that might affect how long Simmons plays in the game. Simmons knows what type of role he must play in Monday night’s contest. Hopefully, for the Chiefs, he can stay hydrated and able to play at a high level.
Kansas City ended up punting on their first offensive series, so Simmons will have a chance to get checked out by personnel on the Chiefs sidelines and see how he’s doing.
