What Happened To Spencer Shrader?

As Shrader was following through on a PAT attempt, a Raiders player ran into his right leg. Shrader fell to the Lucas Oil Stadium turf and immediately grabbed his lower right leg.

With Shrader down, the Colts have had to turn to punter Rigoberto Sanchez to handle kicking duties now.

Colts medical personnel came out immediately to check on him. Shrader was led off the field, and his status is uncertain at this time.

For Indianapolis, losing a key player like Shrader for any amount of time might force the team to look elsewhere for a field goal kicker. The Colts are going to have to go forward with Sanchez at this point if Shrader cannot return at all.

Shrader is in his second year in the NFL after kicking for Notre Dame. He has a 92.9 field goal percentage this season and has been perfect on extra-point attempts in the 2025 NFL season. His longest field goal this season is a 52-yarder for Indianapolis.

After looking at the play a bit more, Dr. David Chao believes that Shrader suffered an MCL injury. As he put it in his post on X, there’s really no way for Shrader to kick at all. There are some free-agent kickers out on the market right now. This injury, if it is as bad as Chao points out, then the Colts will have to hit the phones on Monday.

With Shrader down, Indianapolis has had to turn to Sanchez to handle kicking duties. Sanchez came on the field for kickoff duties after the Colts’ kicker left the game and kicked the ball out of bounds. This is a situation that the Colts will have to watch as the game against the Raiders rolls along.
