Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Mocks Rookie Jaydon Blue’s ‘Questionable Decision’ in Practice

Jaydon Blue’s bold fashion choice left Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer laughing and questioning his focus just days before his NFL debut.

The spotlight is already heating up for Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue, but not because of a highlight-reel play or a game-winning run. Instead, it was a curious fashion choice that left his head coach laughing and questioning his judgment before he had even played an NFL snap.

The situation served as a classic “welcome to the league” moment, where a lesson in professionalism came from an unexpected source: a pair of designer cleats.

Why Was a Rookie’s Fashion Choice a ‘Questionable Decision’?

Halfway through Thursday’s practice, Blue was spotted lying on the sideline, clearly uncomfortable. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer recalled the moment with a smile. “About halfway through practice, I saw him laying. I say what the hell happened to Blue? ‘Coach, I’m fine. I got blisters.’ I said, ‘Oh, shocker. Look at the cool shoes you got.’”

The reason for his discomfort was a pair of custom Louis Vuitton-Nike cleats that Blue proudly wore before realizing they were doing more harm than good. For Schottenheimer, the incident was more than just funny; it was a reminder of how young players still have a lot to learn about being professionals.

“He went out there with some cool new cleats. Louis Vuitton Nikes. You should go get you a pair, but they give you blisters,” the coach joked. “That’s part of what you deal with in young players.”

Fortunately, Blue quickly switched to a more standard pair, and the blisters began to improve. It was a small but important lesson about preparation and focus. The timing of this learning moment, however, could not be more crucial.

Injuries across the Cowboys’ roster have opened up opportunities, and Blue is expected to make his NFL debut in Week 5 against the New York Jets. He may serve as a backup to Javonte Williams and possibly return kicks if Miles Sanders and KaVontae Turpin are sidelined.

Is Blue Ready for a Bigger Role?

Despite the minor mishap, Schottenheimer also pointed out that Blue has made noticeable progress since being drafted in the fifth round. Once criticized for inconsistency, the rookie is now showing better effort and a deeper understanding of the offense.

“I’ve been hard on Jaydon in the past,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s been way more consistent. He’s showing up, mastering the scheme, and we’re really pleased with it.”

Team owner Jerry Jones echoed that sentiment during his radio appearance, suggesting that Blue will likely debut. Jones also noted that the rookie has shown significant growth in his approach to the game.

Ultimately, Blue’s cleat choice caused a few blisters and laughs, but it may be a perfectly timed lesson that prepares him for the spotlight of his first NFL game.
