Anthony Richardson Sr. lost the quarterback battle in Indianapolis to Daniel Jones during training camp and the preseason. While the Colts invested a first-round pick on Richardson, they felt comfortable going with Jones as their starter, as he gave them their best chance to win. Entering Week 5, the Colts are 3-1 with their only loss coming as a one-possession defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
It’s safe to say that Jones isn’t giving up the job anytime soon, and one NFL insider revealed that Richardson could be on the move to a potential Super Bowl contender.
Is Anthony Richardson on the Move?
Richardson has found himself stuck on the bench after Danny Dimes took the job and ran away with it. The Colts have looked great when many didn’t have high expectations for the team.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler hinted that Richardson could be moved to be a development project for a team like the Rams, who have Super Bowl hopes with Matthew Stafford, but could use a QB for the future.
“One intriguing option is Anthony Richardson Sr., who is stuck behind Daniel Jones in Indianapolis. My sense is Richardson would be open to joining a premier playcaller such as Sean McVay as a developmental player so he can reset for 2026,” said Fowler.

Richardson was always a project coming out of the draft, as he only had one full season as the starter at the University of Florida. He has a tremendous arm and is quite the athlete, but hasn’t exactly figured out how to translate his abilities to the NFL. His rookie season looked promising through four starts before a season-ending shoulder injury.
He didn’t have that same mojo after returning the next season. He threw 12 interceptions compared to only eight passing touchdowns. He was benched in the middle of the 2024 season because he struggled with veteran Joe Flacco before getting the job back toward the end of the season.
Now, it doesn’t look like he’ll be getting off the bench anytime soon, and a team like the Rams could use Richardson. It’s unclear how many years Stafford has left in the tank to help the Rams compete for the Super Bowl. By developing Richardson with an offensive wizard like Sean McVay and a great quarterback like Stafford, the Rams could potentially set themselves up for the future with a seamless transition at quarterback.
A change of scenery could be exactly what the doctor ordered for Richardson, as his time in Indianapolis is likely ticking. He’s still young and has value as a project, and the Colts could cash in. A Super Bowl contender like the Rams could be the perfect destination, but only time will tell if the Colts decide to move off of Richardson.
