For Agassi, this was a landmark occasion, as it was his first time at the helm of the squad after taking over captaincy duties. Notably, the team rallied under the highly energetic Agassi to deliver a memorable victory.

“Everybody played a part in making this one of the most memorable weeks I’ve ever spent on a tennis court,” Agassi said after the memorable triumph. “And that’s saying something, because it was a lot of years I’ve been out there in one form or another with a perceived team, but this really was a team. So proud of the guys. Just unflappable. They never stopped believing.”

The 8-time major champion added, “I think the common theme that I took away from this group is just how confident they are in what they can do on a tennis court.”

How Team World beat Team USA for historic Laver Cup triumph

Under the leadership of Agassi, the squad showcased consistency and resilience across three days of competition, sweeping Saturday’s matches before sealing the win on Sunday.

The decisive day began with Europe attempting to mount a comeback. Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud combined for a doubles victory against Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka. Alcaraz then followed up with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 singles win over Francisco Cerundolo, reducing Team World’s lead to 12-9 and keeping European hopes alive.

However, Team World quickly regained control. Alex de Minaur delivered another standout performance, beating Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4 to push his team within one win of glory. De Minaur, who contributed seven points across the weekend, proved instrumental through both singles and doubles success. Moments later, the red side sealed the championship, sparking celebrations on the bench.

Agassi’s presence as captain appeared to be a major boost, with the American legend’s energy and encouragement resonating throughout the squad.
