When Did DK Metcalf Join the Steelers? Revisiting the Blockbuster Trade With the Seahawks

When DK Metcalf first walked into the Pittsburgh Steelers facility this spring, it felt like the start of a brand-new chapter.

The All-Pro wideout had spent six seasons in Seattle, where he became one of the NFL’s most feared receivers, but something about the last few years didn’t feel right anymore. The Seahawks were changing, and Metcalf felt like he was being left behind.

DK Metcalf Traded to Steelers, Embarking on New Journey with New City

On March 9, 2025, his wish for a new beginning came true. Seattle traded him to the Steelers for a second-round pick, and within days, he signed a five-year, $150 million contract. It was a blockbuster move, but for Metcalf, it was more personal than financial.

Over time, Seattle’s culture has been changing. It was evident that Seattle began to move in a different direction under Mike Macdonald. Additionally, Metcalf, who had been there since 2019, grew distant in a locker room that had changed appearance and sound.

In the meantime, Seattle started to eye Jaxon Smith-Njigba as their wide receiver of the future. Both parties decided that the time was ripe to part ways.

For Pittsburgh, it was the chance to add a proven star to a roster with championship aspirations. And for Metcalf, it was a chance to play for a storied franchise that still knows what it means to compete. The cherry on top? Catching passes from Aaron Rodgers, who arrived in Pittsburgh just a year earlier.

How’s Metcalf Doing so Far with Pittsburgh in First Season?

Metcalf has accumulated 10 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns through three games, which may not seem like much, but the connection tells the tale. Every week, their timing seems to work better together, and Rodgers has been gradually resorting to him in the most critical situations. Steelers supporters can see how they will blow defenses away once their synergy is completely developed.

Metcalf considers calm while he is off the field. Though his engagement to singer Normani has garnered much media attention, he appears to fit in well with Pittsburgh’s family-friendly society. His enthusiasm, work ethic, and competitive edge are all mentioned by teammates.

Although the team’s decision to let him go may still baffle Seattle fans, it wasn’t solely about contracts or cap space. Metcalf wanted a new place for his career, and ultimately, Pittsburgh offered him that place. Now, he’s competing with a new purpose and establishing his WR1 with his new team.
