Ladd McConkey Reveals What He Needs To Improve After Slow Start to 2025 Season

Ladd McConkey has had a rough start in 2025. He spoke about what he can improve on to return to his rookie-year form for the 3-0 Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers are flying out of the gates in the 2025 season with a 3-0 record. Their star WR Ladd McConkey isn’t off to the best start, though. After a very promising rookie season, McConkey hasn’t been the same explosive receiver through the first three games of the season.

The Chargers would be in business if they can get McConkey going for the remainder of the season. McConkey knows that he needs to turn it around and is ready to find a way to overcome his tough start.

Ladd McConkey Addresses His Slow Start

McConkey is aware of what he can do better to help the Chargers more. His production isn’t matching his expectations, but he’s analyzing his game to be better. He sat down with RG to discuss the Chargers’ hot start and his slow start.

“Just being more decisive in my routes,” McConkey said. “I don’t want to look at a play on the field — obviously you’re going to have bad plays, it is what it is — but you don’t want to sit there and be like, ‘If I just played a little bit faster, if I had been a little more decisive on this, if I would have taken this release,’ just being more consistent in all of that.”

McConkey is noticing little parts in his game that can be improved. He feels he is close to finding his rhythm, though. Luckily, his performance hasn’t hurt the team, as the Chargers’ receiving corps has more weapons this year and has shown up when McConkey hasn’t been at his best. He’s still getting catches, but not performing to the level of consistency he had in 2024.

“Just be more consistent, that was my goal coming in,” McConkey said. “Early in the year last season, I left some things out on the table. Just be more consistent, showing up for my team and when the ball comes my way, make a play.”

Last season, McConkey was adjusting to the NFL and didn’t have a hot start. But McConkey wasn’t expecting to have the same inconsistencies at the start of his sophomore season. He was one of the most dynamic rookies, and fans were expecting the same production.

It hasn’t happened yet, but McConkey is aware of what he needs to improve, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he figured it out soon.

The Chargers won’t be worried now because they are 3-0 with three divisional victories. They have aspirations beyond just a playoff win, which they failed to achieve in 2024. They want to make a deep run at the Super Bowl, and McConkey getting back to his top form will be pivotal in their efforts.
