Drew Brees made his First Take debut on ESPN this week and quickly grabbed attention with strong remarks about the Eagles. “I respect Philly, they are winning games… I can’t stand to watch that offense. It’s the most boring offense,” Brees said during Tuesday’s show.
Brees Criticizes the Eagles’ Offensive System
Brees’ comments came after Stephen A. Smith noted that the former New Orleans Saints star had not included Jalen Hurts among the most impressive quarterbacks through the early weeks of the 2025 season.

Pressed on that omission, Brees shifted the conversation toward Philadelphia’s offensive approach. He pointed to their run-heavy, methodical attack as the reason he finds the unit difficult to watch. While he conceded that such an approach can still deliver results, he made clear it does not inspire him as a viewer.
Brees later clarified that a “boring” system can “absolutely” win a championship. His stance underscored the tension between efficiency and excitement, two elements often weighed differently by analysts, fans, and players.
The Eagles, for their part, hardly need validation on style points. Hurts has led them to 17 wins in their last 17 games, proving that their formula works even if it lacks the flair of pass-heavy rivals. For Philadelphia supporters, Brees’ critique may carry little weight as long as the victories keep coming.
Brees also broadened his commentary to the division picture, calling the NFC East “the toughest division in football.” With the Cowboys and Giants struggling to find consistency, that statement raised eyebrows, but it reflected his belief in the group’s physical, competitive nature.
Tuesday’s appearance marked only the beginning of Brees’ latest media venture. According to Barrett Media, he will contribute to First Take regularly, joining a roster of former players and analysts that rotate through the panel. His ESPN role is nonexclusive, as he is also scheduled to call an NFL game for Netflix on Christmas Day alongside Ian Eagle.
The Eagles, meanwhile, will shift their attention to Sunday’s road test against the 3–0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Whether or not Brees finds their style appealing, Philadelphia’s start to the season has been effective, and another win would further cement their standing atop the NFL.
