What Was Taylor Fritz’s Unexpected Message to His Girlfriend, Morgan Riddle?

Team World completed a remarkable comeback at the 2025 Laver Cup, overturning a 3-1 deficit from Day 1 to claim victory at Chase Center. Fritz played a crucial role in this triumph, earning five points through two wins against top-ranked opponents. His most notable victory came against Carlos Alcaraz on Day 2, where he secured his first win over a world No. 1 in a dominant 6-3, 6-2 performance.

During the team’s celebration at a San Francisco club, Fritz sent Morgan Riddle an Instagram reel featuring cats. The gesture showed that despite his historic achievement and the ongoing celebrations, his thoughts were with his girlfriend. Riddle, who has been dating Fritz since 2020, shared the moment on her Instagram story, revealing how Fritz was thinking of her during his big night.

After receiving the unexpected message, Riddle asked him, “aren’t you at the club?” to which he simply replied, “Ya:)”

The cat-themed message carries special significance for the couple. Fritz and Riddle are known throughout the tennis community for their passion for fostering kittens and cats. They regularly take in stray animals and have made fostering a tradition whenever their schedule permits.

During the 2024 US Open, Riddle shared videos of three new foster kittens they had rescued in Los Angeles. The couple has fostered multiple litters over the years, including during Fritz’s 2023 Miami Open run.

The victory against Alcaraz was particularly meaningful for Fritz. He had lost to the Spaniard in all three previous encounters, including last year’s Laver Cup final. This time, Fritz controlled the match from start to finish, winning 80 percent of his first-serve points and never facing a break point after the opening game.

However, unlike previous tournaments, Riddle did not appear to attend this year’s Laver Cup in San Francisco, making Fritz’s message from the club even more touching.

How Did Fritz Perform at the Laver Cup?

Fritz’s performance at the 2025 Laver Cup was nothing short of exceptional. Following his upset victory over Alcaraz, he returned on the final day to face Alexander Zverev in the championship-deciding match. With Team World leading 12-9 and needing just one more point to secure victory, Fritz stepped up under pressure.

The American dominated early against Zverev, taking the first set 6-3 before facing a challenge in the second set. Zverev fought back to break Fritz’s serve and level the set at 4-4, creating tension in Chase Center. However, Fritz responded with composure, forcing a tiebreak where he took control early and closed out the match 7-6(4).

Fritz’s two victories against top-three opponents contributed five crucial points to Team World’s 15-9 triumph. His head-to-head record against Zverev improved to 9-5, extending his winning streak against the German to six matches.
