Cam Skattebo’s Road to the NFL

Skattebo was born on February 5, 2002, in Rio Linda, California, and grew up there with his parents, Leonard and Becky. They have three other children apart from the Giants’ rookie.

He attended Rio Linda High School and was dominant in his high school football career. Eventually, he attended Arizona State to play football and kept up his dominance, leading him to the NFL.

He wasn’t the only person in his family to play college football. His dad, Leonard, played fullback at Bowling Green University. Now, Skattebo is announcing himself to the world, scoring touchdowns in primetime.

Skattebo is no stranger to primetime, though. He cemented his draft status in his final season at Arizona State, as he was a pivotal part of the offense that helped Arizona State reach the College Football Playoff. He was absolutely everywhere against the University of Texas and terrorizing the elite Longhorns’ defense.

Even though they lost in double overtime heartbreakingly, Skattebo lit up the boxscore. He had 30 carries for 148 yards, two rushing touchdowns, eight catches for 99 yards, and he even tried his luck as a quarterback, throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass on a trick play. If fans didn’t know who Skattebo was before this game, everyone in college football knew who Skattebo was after that game.

It wasn’t all perfect for Skattebo coming out of Rio Linda, though. While his time at Arizona State was special, he started off at Sacramento State University. After two seasons with Sacramento State, he found his way to Tempe, where Skattebo began his journey to becoming a Sun Devil legend.

After his rise to stardom and a fifth-place finish in Heisman voting, Skattebo was taken by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 105 overall selection.

His journey as a child from California wasn’t one of a top recruit who floated through college football into being a high draft pick. But that didn’t matter for Skattebo as he is making his mark in the NFL and certainly left a legacy at Arizona State that will not be forgotten.
