DeQuan Finn Injury Shakes Miami (OH) in Tight UNLV Battle
The opening quarter of Miami (OH) vs. UNLV in Oxford, Ohio, set the tone for a chaotic game. The UNLV Rebels’ offense struggled early, highlighted by an interception from quarterback Anthony Colandrea.
This turnover sparked a surge from Miami’s offense, led by quarterback Finn, who quickly turned to Kenny Tracy and then Keith Reynolds on consecutive drives, recording his first two passing touchdowns of the season. By the end of the quarter, Miami led 14-0, though UNLV was beginning to find its rhythm.
On a critical third-and-long play, Finn rolled to his right and attempted a pass downfield, but he took a heavy hit to his lower body and landed awkwardly on his head. The play resulted in an impressive interception by Aamaris Brown, who returned it 67 yards for a pick-six. Finn remained down on the field for several moments before being helped off, with the score now 14-10 and momentum shifting toward UNLV.
Miami’s backup Henry Hesson immediately responded, driving the offense downfield on a 40-plus yard completion that led to a short touchdown pass. The Rebels allowed the RedHawks to extend their lead to 21-10, but UNLV had opportunities to capitalize on defensive lapses.
Despite the setback, Finn has shown some productivity early this season. Against Rutgers, he completed 14 of 22 passes for 251 yards with one interception and added 11 rushes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Miami (OH) will need Finn healthy and fully cleared to play when they face UNLV at Yager Stadium. His recovery and performance could be pivotal in determining whether the RedHawks can rebound and avoid a 0-3 start.
