Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal fans might finally have something to cheer for, as the former’s longtime agent, Tony Godsick, confirmed in a recent interview that discussions have taken place with the Spanish tennis icon regarding a potential comeback tour featuring the two legends.
Godsick’s comments have fueled speculation about a ‘Fedal’ tour, a unique concept that could reunite one of tennis’ greatest rivalries.
What Makes the Idea of a Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal Comeback Tour So Compelling?
The idea of seeing Federer and Nadal back on court is particularly compelling, given their rivalry is one of the most celebrated in sports history. While both have stepped away from the regular ATP tour, with Federer retiring in September 2022 after the Laver Cup and Nadal in November 2024 at the Davis Cup Finals, the prospect of a senior-style tour offers fans the chance to witness the magic again without the pressure of top-level competition.
Federer hinted at this possibility during an interview with CNBC ahead of the 2025 Laver Cup, expressing his enthusiasm for staying in shape and seeing Nadal return to the court. “Yeah, why not! I love Rafa,” Federer said.
“I have played four hours of tennis the other day here in San Francisco and then in L.A also another hour and a half. Before that, I have been playing a lot, I am trying to keep in good shape, and I know that Rafa is also totally open to maybe play some tennis. It sounds terrible, senior tennis to us, but maybe we can create a tour, like a Fedal tour or something like that. It would be cool.”
Godsick’s recent interview with Tennis Channel provided even more insight into these discussions. “I’ve been pressuring him a little bit, saying, ‘Come on, people want to see you play again. You can play a couple senior things,'” Godsick said.
He added that Federer has been cautious, making sure his knee is in good condition before committing to any future events. “Roger just wanted to make sure that his knee was fine. He didn’t want to be totally broken after his career, so he gave it a little bit of time. He’s not there yet, but he’s in the gym a lot,” he explained.

While Godsick was careful not to speak for Nadal, he expressed optimism about the tour’s potential. “I think Rafa was interested. I don’t want to speak for Rafa, but it would be great to see these guys out there. Plus, there’s a lot of other guys of their generation I think would be willing to play too, so it could be fun. Some of the biggest names are these guys that just retired, so we could probably fill some nice stadiums and venues.”
The rivalry between Federer and Nadal is one of the most iconic in tennis history, making the idea of a Fedal tour even more appealing. Over their professional careers, the two have faced each other 40 times, with Nadal leading 24-16 in their head-to-head encounters.
Classics like the 2008 Wimbledon final, which Nadal won in a five-set marathon, are still regarded as some of the greatest tennis matches ever played.
