What Did Roger Federer Say About Carlos Alcaraz Ahead of Laver Cup 2025?

Recently, while addressing the press before the commencement of the eighth edition of the Laver Cup, Federer noted that competing in San Francisco might be challenging for Team Europe’s players due to the long travel time from Europe, which can result in jet lag affecting their performance.

“Who do I see as favorites? It’s always the classic question before the Laver Cup and I always think I know the answer but then I don’t. I have the feeling as we saw that the West Coast can be a tricky place to play for the Europeans as when they travel from Europe it’s far away and with jet lag it can take its toll,” Federer said.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion expressed that Team Europe boasts a “stronger” lineup overall. With Alcaraz arriving early in San Francisco and overcoming jet lag, they will have an “edge” in defending their title.

“Now I do think that Europe probably overall has the stronger team and I think that doubles is not as crucial this time around because I think both teams are about equally strong in the doubles so it’s going to come down to the singles. This is where I think with Carlos Alcaraz on the team and him arriving already in San Francisco and ready to go, I give Europe the edge here in San Francisco to take it home again,” he added.

In 2024, Alcaraz participated in four matches at the Laver Cup: two singles and two doubles matches. He won three out of four games, securing victories in both his singles match and one doubles match.
