Dallas Goedert Injury Update: Latest on the Eagles TE and His Week 3 Availability vs. Rams

Here's the latest on Dallas Goedert’s knee injury, his Week 3 status against the Rams, and what it means for the Eagles’ offense.

The Philadelphia Eagles have started their Super Bowl defense with two straight wins, but they accomplished their Week 2 victory without a key offensive weapon. Star tight end Dallas Goedert, who injured his knee in practice following the Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys, was sidelined for the Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With a crucial matchup ahead, the team and its fans are anxious for good news.

How Close Is Dallas Goedert to a Return?

There’s some positive news for the Eagles. While Goedert has not been practicing since suffering a knee sprain before Week 2, he finally returned to the field on Wednesday. His limited participation in practice suggests the tight end has a chance to be back on the field this weekend against the Los Angeles Rams. “Eagles TE Dallas Goedert (knee) was limited today as he works his way back. DT Jalen Carter (shoulder) also listed as limited,” wrote NFL insider Mike Garafolo on X.

Goedert’s injury was never considered long-term, and his return to practice is an encouraging sign for the Eagles heading into its Week 3 clash. With backup Grant Calcaterra struggling to make an impact against the Chiefs, the Eagles will be eager to have Goedert back as they look to keep their offense rolling.

For fantasy football purposes, Goedert’s presence will slightly bring down the target share for A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and running back Saquon Barkley after they saw a slight increase in Week 2. As for Goedert’s own fantasy outlook, PFSN analyst Kyle Soppe offered a tempered view:

“Goedert is a good player, but he’s not special. The two receivers in this run-oriented offense are special, and assuming that Hurts’ throw depth moves in the direction it has in years past, the tight end’s stock is set to fall sooner than later (there’s a reason he’s never cleared five touchdown receptions in a season or reached 60 catches).

“I’d be shocked if there is a sell-high thread to chase here, but it’s all contextual. I had Goedert ranked with half a dozen other tight ends as coin flip streaming options this summer, and that remains my stance: I believe he is essentially the definition of replacement level at the position.”

While Goedert did post an impressive 35% target share in Week 1 against the Cowboys, Soppe cautions that such production is unlikely to continue in the Eagles’ run-first offense. With Brown, Smith, and Barkley commanding steady involvement, Goedert is more likely to settle into a secondary role. This makes his Week 1 production look more like an outlier than a sustainable trend.
