Controversy has been growing around Tom Brady, NFL legend and future Hall of Famer, for his dual roles as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and a FOX Sports commentator.
Many believe that holding both positions presents a conflict of interest. With questions continuing to arise, the NFL has addressed the concerns, making its stance very clear.
NFL Addresses Concerns Over Brady’s Dual Role
Brady, who retired from the NFL following the 2022 season, began two new roles in 2024. He became FOX’s lead color commentator for the NFL and also a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. This season, the NFL allowed Brady to meet with teams whose games he is calling, a different stance from last year.
On Monday, it was revealed that Brady is heavily involved in the Raiders’ gameday preparation and operations, meeting weekly with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. He was also seen wearing a headset to communicate with the coaching staff during the Raiders’ Monday Night game against the Chargers.

His growing involvement with the Raiders has sparked concern. If Brady can meet with opponents and gain key information during his FOX production meetings, nothing would prevent him from using that knowledge to benefit the Raiders if they face those same teams later in the season.
While fans and media members have expressed displeasure with Brady’s conflicting jobs, the NFL has taken a firm stance on allowing Brady to continue in both roles.
According to Vincent Bonsignore, a Raiders reporter, the league addressed Brady being in the booth with the Raiders’ coaching staff for Las Vegas’ Monday Night game against the Chargers, stating that no rule prevents him from doing so.
From @NFL re: Tom Brady sitting in @Raiders coaches booth w/Headset last night:
“There are no policies that prohibit an owner from sitting in the coaches’ booth or wearing a headset during a game. Brady was sitting in the booth in his capacity as a limited partner.”

Regarding his role with FOX, the NFL emphasized that, like all league personnel, Brady is not allowed to use any electronic devices other than league-issued equipment during games.
The league also noted that he is still prohibited from visiting any team facilities or practices and can only attend FOX production meetings remotely.
“Tom continues to be prohibited from going to a team facility for practices or production meetings. He may attend production meetings remotely but may not attend in person at the team facility or hotel. “

This situation became even more of a hot-button issue when many football fans realized that Brady would be calling — and researching for said call — the Bears’ upcoming Week 3 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in Chicago, the same team his Raiders play Week 4.
Additionally, the NFL made it clear that coaches and players have complete control over what they share with Brady and are not required to divulge any information they do not wish to.
While many people are unhappy that Brady can attend FOX production meetings and also be involved with the Raiders’ coaching staff, the NFL appears to see no issue with it and will continue to allow him to do so for the foreseeable future.
