The first half of the Week 2 Monday Night Football slate hasn’t exactly been the spectacular spectacle that everyone had anticipated. Punts, lost chances, and irate fans on both sides characterize the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans’ grueling matchup.
But in the middle of all the stalled drives, one moment in the third quarter had everyone buzzing, and it brought Antonio Brown back into the spotlight with one of his trademark outbursts.
Antonio Brown Slams Houston Play Call on Fourth Down
The Texans had one of their best scoring opportunities of the night when C.J. Stroud hit Nico Collins on a short pass that set Houston up at the Tampa Bay one-yard line. Down 14-10, the home crowd was ready for Stroud and company to punch it in and flip the game. What followed, though, was about as frustrating as it gets.
On second down, Nick Chubb ran into a brick wall at the goal line. On third down, Stroud missed Collins in the end zone. But it was the fourth-down play selection that really had everyone scratching their heads.
Instead of letting Stroud roll out to his right, where he’s clearly more comfortable, the Texans had him go left, shrinking his field and forcing him into an awkward throw. Stroud tried to hit Collins again, but he ended up overthrowing him.
Just like that, Houston came away empty-handed, turning the ball over on downs.
Fans couldn’t believe it, and neither could Brown. The former wide receiver jumped on social media to rip the Texans’ play-calling.
“4th down roll your rt (right) hand QB to the left WTF my grandma call better play,” Brown wrote.

It was classic AB: blunt, funny, and brutally honest. And to be fair, plenty of Texans fans agreed with him. Social media lit up with reactions, with many pointing out how much the play took away from Stroud’s strengths in such a crucial moment.
Both Tampa Bay and Houston Struggling To Convert Opportunities
Up to that point, Houston’s offense had been stuck in neutral after a promising first quarter that featured a touchdown and field goal. Four straight punts followed before this goal-line stand, and the failure to convert made the Texans’ struggles even harder to ignore.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s defense looked energized after the stop, riding the momentum as the Bucs clung to their slim lead.
The game is still being played, but Brown’s reaction is already one of the night’s biggest talking points. Love him or hate him, he voiced exactly what so many people were thinking in the moment.
Perhaps his grandma could’ve called a better play.
