3-Time Super Bowl Legend Reveals Bold NFL Comparison for Patriots QB Drake Maye

During a recent interview, this three-time Super Bowl champion directly compared Drake Maye and another NFL QB. And he is not the only one!

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye just had his best game yet. The Patriots pulled a stunning 33-27 win against the Miami Dolphins, Maye making up for his lackluster Week 1 performance against the Las Vegas Raiders. Maye finished 19-of-23 for 230 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, adding 10 rushes for 31 yards and a TD.

That said, some analysts and players already had faith in Maye, comparing him to other NFL icons with a similar playing style.

3-Time Super Bowl Champion Compares Patriots’ Drake Maye to Popular NFL QB

In an interview with RG before their Week 2 clash, Patriots legend Julian Edelman discussed Maye and his on-field performance. Describing his game, Edelman compared the young quarterback to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.

“He’s a big guy, doesn’t throw the same, but he’s Justin Herbert-ish,” said Edelman of Maye. “Just because they both can run. He’s a big man, and I saw Drake, he’s a big guy. He’s mobile enough where if he can put it together, you hope he looks like Justin Herbert.”

Now, everyone might not agree with Edelman’s comparison.

However, one can’t deny the similarities either. Both big guys can create plays on the run while using their mobility. This isn’t just limited to passing and how they maneuver themselves on the field.

Now, Herbert might not be as aggressive as Maye on the field, but his plays and starts are probably similar to those of a quarterback who is more heads-on in his approach. However, one can’t rule out the run style, which remains closer to Herbert’s.

Furthermore, Edelman also defended Maye’s game, confident that the young QB would only get better with time.

“I would expect a better performance by the offense, because I think with time, that offense is going to get better,” said Edelman. “This is just his second year. This is his second year with a new system. He’s got to learn a new system. There’s a new offensive line guy, they revamped that offensive line with Will Campbell, a young guy.”

Josh Allen Was All-Praises for Drake Maye

Edelman isn’t the only one praising Maye this season. In an earlier appearance on the “Like A Farmer Podcast”, Josh Allen spoke of Maye and his ‘unbelievable’ talent.

“Got to spend some time with him this offseason. He’s an unbelievable guy. He’s still in the kid tier for me,” Allen said. “He’s younger than I am. He’s an unbelievable kid, a bright kid. He can spin the heck out of the ball. He moves well.”

While Allen didn’t compare Maye to Herbert, one can admit that Herbert, like Maye,  ‘moves well’ on the field. Following their win against the Dolphins, the Patriots will face the Pittsburgh Steelers for Week 3 on September 21, 2025.
