Is Jameson Williams Hurt? Breaking Down the Lions Star’s Quiet Start in Week 2 vs. Bears

After an explosive 2024 campaign, it has been a rough start to the 2025 season for Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams.

After a rough start to their season, the Detroit Lions would have been hoping for a bounce-back game when going up against another divisional rival. The Green Bay Packers soundly defeated Detroit, but it was a different story against the Chicago Bears. Scoring four touchdowns in the first half alone, it was a dramatic return to form for a team with two new coordinators on the sidelines.

Whether it was the passing game or the rushing attack, the Lions were lethal in almost every phase. Despite an exceptional half of offense, the team faced one major question mark in the form of the performance from former first-round pick Jameson Williams.

What Happened to Jameson Williams?

Taken with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams looked like a failed experiment over the first two years of his career, with less than 400 yards to his name over the two seasons combined.

However, all that changed last year when the youngster exploded for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns in his 15 games. Unfortunately, that production hasn’t translated so far this year.

In Week 1, Detroit as a whole was shut down by the Packers as they lost 27-13. Williams, too, had a rough outing, accounting for just 23 yards in his four receptions. Additionally, he was even fined $11,593 after he taunted Green Bay after one of those plays.

Even though the Lions took a turn for the better in the first half against Chicago, the same couldn’t be said about Williams.

Through the first half, even as the offense had over 250 total yards to its name, Williams accounted for zero yards of offense. He struggled in the passing and rushing game as well, and he was the one problem for an otherwise dominant first half for Detroit.

That slow tart was all for naught. In the third quarter alone, Williams came out like a man on a mission. By the end of the night, he had 108 yards on just two receptions, while adding a touchdown of his own to the Lions’ tally.

Ultimately, the game turned into a rout with Detroit managing the clock in the fourth quarter of a 52-21 victory. Williams registered all of his receptions and the touchdowns in the third quarter alone.

After an extremely quiet start, it was a return to form from a receiver that the Lions hope to have high expectations from, especially coming off a breakout 2024 campaign.
