The Americans, led by captain Lindsay Davenport and featuring Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend, and a talented supporting cast, are set to compete in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in China from September 16 to September 21, marking the first time the prestigious event is held in China.

They have participated in the tournament 60 times, winning 18 titles and finishing as runners-up 12 times. However, Team USA has not secured the title since its 2017 victory over Belarus. They were runners-up in 2018, losing to the Czech Republic in the final.

Team USA is seeded third at the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals and will begin its campaign by facing Team Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. Each tie at the Finals consists of three matches: two singles followed by a doubles match, all played in a best-of-three tiebreak sets format.

The American team lineup includes players such as Pegula, Emma Navarro, Hailey Baptiste, Townsend, and McCartney Kessler, who is stepping in for Madison Keys.

Team Kazakhstan presents a formidable first-round challenge. Their roster includes former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, Yulia Putintseva, Zarina Diyas, Anna Danilina, Zhibek Kulambayeva, and captain Yuriy Schukin.

The winner of the quarterfinal round between Team USA and Team Kazakhstan will advance to the semifinals, where they will face either the second-seeded Team Great Britain or Team Japan.

How Did the Americans Secure Their Spot in Shenzhen?

The 2025 Billie Jean King Cup qualifying round took place from April 10 to April 13, 2025. Team USA competed in Group C alongside Slovakia and Denmark. The matches were played at the Peugeot Arena in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Team USA fielded a roster consisting of Alycia Parks, Bernarda Pera, Hailey Baptiste, Desirae Krawczyk, and Asia Muhammad. The Americans began their qualifying campaign dominantly, defeating Team Denmark 3-0. Baptiste defeated Munk Mortensen 6-1, 6-4 in the singles matches, while Pera won against Johanne Christine Svendsen 6-3, 6-1.

The American duo of Krawczyk and Muhammad completed the sweep in doubles, triumphing over the Laura Brunkel and Emilie Francati pair with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

The Americans then faced a more challenging test against Team Slovakia, emerging victorious with a 2-1 win that secured their Finals berth. In the first singles match, Renáta Jamrichová defeated Baptiste with a 6-3, 6-4 score, giving Slovakia the initial lead. Pera responded under pressure, leveling the score for the USA by beating Rebecca Šramková with a scoreline of 7-6(2), 7-5.

In the decisive doubles match, Slovakia’s Tereza Mihalíková and Mia Pohánková retired, granting the American pair of Krawczyk and Muhammad the victory and sending Team USA to the Finals in China.
