Edmonton Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl Makes Sneaky Appearance on ‘Jeopardy!’

While the offseason continues for the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl unexpectedly found himself featured on the latest episode of Jeopardy!

Training camp for the Edmonton Oilers is still a week away, but that hasn’t stopped one forward from appearing on prime-time American television. While trying to keep a low profile this offseason, Leon Draisaitl unexpectedly found himself referenced on the latest episode of Jeopardy.

How Were Jeopardy Contestants Stumped by Leon Draisaitl’s Question?

Since first appearing on American TV screens in 1964, the quiz show Jeopardy! has remained a staple in households across the United States. Among the show’s diverse categories, sports questions often provide some of the most entertaining moments for viewers.

The show is known for its distinctive format, where contestants are given clues in the form of answers and must respond in the form of a question. So when a recent episode featured Leon Draisaitl in a hockey-related clue, NHL fans took notice.

Under the Canadian Girlfriends category, the $600 clue mentioned, “This northernmost NHL team’s Leon Draisaitl traveled to Spain to propose to Celeste Desjardins.” All three contestants were left without an answer.

While most NHL fans would have found this clue pretty easy, the contestants who appeared that night, struggled. Contestant Ian Morrison, an airline ramp agent, had the closest guess, as he mentioned the Winnipeg Jets. Meanwhile, the other contestants didn’t even attempt to answer.

Host Ken Jennings revealed the correct answer: “Edmonton is farther north.” While Draisaitl didn’t help any contestant win $600 that night, the forward has been celebrating his own victories this offseason, as he married longtime partner Desjardins in August.

Draisaitl and Desjardins got engaged on July 11, 2024, with Desjardins calling it ‘the easiest yes.’ After seven years together, the couple tied the knot on August 3.

Though the engagement happened on Mallorca’s warm beaches, the couple chose to marry in the picturesque Les Baux-de-Provence region of France. The southern French locale is famous for its dramatic landscapes and historic charm.

Meanwhile, the wedding ceremony itself was described as elegant and gorgeous and was attended by close friends and family. Also present among the attendees was fellow Oilers star and Draisaitl’s teammate in Edmonton, Connor McDavid, and his wife, Lauren Kyle.

Desjardins has frequently referred to Kyle as her “bestie” as the McDavid couple watched one of their close friends get married. Earlier this week, she even showed glimpses of the luxury time she had at Kyle’s new establishment, named Bar Trove, which opened earlier this year in June.

However, while his wife is enjoying married life, for Draisaitl the clock is ticking fast as the training begins on September 17. Last season, Draisaitl had the sixth 100-point season of his career while also leading the league in regular-season goals at 52.

Despite all this, however, the Oilers still couldn’t overcome the offensive might of the Panthers in the Finals. But with a new season right around the corner, Draisaitl must be waiting to get his revenge.
