The Washington Commanders were able to take care of business in Week 1 against the New York Giants, walking away with a 21-6 win.
While the Commanders’ offense is certainly still ramping up, veteran tight end Zach Ertz is bound to slow down at some point in the near future. It’s not that time quite yet, as he recorded three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown catch against the Giants and remains a reliable weapon for sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Still, it could be in the best interest of Washington’s front office and coaching staff to add another receiving threat who fits Daniels’ timeline.
Could the Washington Commanders Swing for the Fences by Trading for Kyle Pitts?
The Atlanta Falcons have one of the most talented skill position trios in the NFL: Running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London, and TE Kyle Pitts. Robinson and Pitts were selected with top-10 picks, but only the former is living up to the hype thus far.
Despite 2025 being his fifth season in the league, Pitts has yet to prove himself worthy of the No. 4 pick used on him. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicts the Commanders could trade for Pitts, giving him a fresh start and Daniels yet another weapon.
“Though Pitts flashed elite potential with a 1,026-yard rookie season, his lack of a long-term role in Atlanta could make him a more realistic trade target early in the year,” Knox wrote. “The 24-year-old is in a contract year and has not cemented himself as a long-term piece of Atlanta’s puzzle.”
Pitts had a solid outing in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tallying seven receptions for 59 yards in the 23-20 loss. He had the most receiving yards on the team.

“Of course, acquiring Pitts would likely require extending him, unless a team is merely seeking a short-term rental. The need for a new contract could keep his trade value in check, as it did for the Cowboys in the Parsons deal. Atlanta can probably expect to get a high Day-3 selection that can become a Day-2 pick if Pitts returns to a Pro Bowl level of production,” Knox concluded.
This is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Commanders to make. Pitts will either break out and earn a lucrative extension with Washington or continue to underwhelm and hit free agency next summer. Given how much this trade could benefit Daniels, it seems like a no-brainer if the Falcons are willing to part with him.
