The first Sunday Night Football game of the 2025 NFL season is a star-studded affair. With the last two MVP winners facing off, the Baltimore Ravens traveling to take on the Buffalo Bills was always going to be intense. Through the first half, the matchup lived up to its billing, with very little separating the two sides.
However, with a game of this magnitude and a spotlight to match, every decision was bound to be scrutinized on social media. At the end of the first half, fans erupted when the clock was reset to show an extra second, allowing the Bills to score a field goal and cut Baltimore’s lead to three points.
What Happened in the Final Seconds of Bills-Ravens First Half?
After an electric opening drive from Buffalo that resulted in a touchdown, Baltimore had taken control. Thanks to a dominating performance from Derrick Henry, the Ravens led 17-10 at halftime.
Trying to execute a two-minute drill, the Bills almost missed their opportunity. As quarterback Josh Allen connected with tight end Dalton Kincaid on the left sideline, the clock read zero when Kincaid stepped out of bounds.
However, the reigning NFL MVP insisted there was time remaining. Upon further review, the officials added an extra second, allowing Buffalo to set up a field goal and add three points to their tally.
Fans reacted strongly. One compared Allen’s finger gesture to WWE superstar Roman Reigns: “Josh Allen held up the ones like he was Roman Reigns and the refs called everyone back on the field because he said so.”

After the referees “acknowledged” his request, fans weren’t done voicing their anger. Many watching at home believed the clock had indeed run down to zero, but the referees chose to help Buffalo regardless. “That was clearly 0 seconds refs riding the bills what’s new.”

Some fans offered an easy explanation for the perceived bias. Either it was the quarterback — “Josh Allen needed refs help fairs” — or the advantage of having the home team in the matchup: “They knew the refs was gonna lie for the home team.”

Many believed the decision was part of a long line of advantages for Allen. From changing the overtime rules to game times, to installing a virtual system for tracking the ball, a variety of changes have come at the behest of the Bills superstar.
The refs literally reversed time for Allen 💀💀💀

One fan mocked, “The refs literally reversed time for Allen,” while another added: “I f**king knew they would. The refs will give Josh Allen whatever he wants.”
Why the refs always giving the bills a handout before half

For many, the easiest way to attack the officiating was to claim the game was rigged in Buffalo’s favor. One fan wrote, “Why the refs always giving the bills a handout before half.”
Another added, “Refs want the bills to win sooooo bad.”
I can’t believe we’re watching the refs rig this game for the Bills

Even with the perceived referee advantage, the home team was still trailing Baltimore by a significant margin.
