Amanda Anisimova Makes Feelings Clear on Facing Iga Świątek at US Open, Just Weeks After Pole Destroyed Her in Slam Final

Weeks after a heavy defeat to Iga Świątek in Wimbledon 2025 finals, Amanda Anisimova opens up on her rematch with the Pole at the US Open.

American tennis star Amanda Anisimova has secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 US Open with a clinical victory over the 18th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia. Now, the No. 8 seed faces a familiar foe in the last eight: her Wimbledon conqueror, Iga Świątek. This sets up a highly anticipated rematch just seven weeks after Świątek delivered a crushing 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Anisimova in the Wimbledon final to claim her sixth Grand Slam singles trophy.

Why Is Amanda Anisimova ‘Happy’ About a Rematch With Iga Świątek?

Despite the lopsided result at Wimbledon, Anisimova has indicated she is ready and even eager for another shot at Świątek. “I’m really excited and looking forward to it,” Anisimova said in her post-match press conference.

“At this stage of the game, you are going to play a really tough opponent regardless. To be able to have a rematch, to be able to face her again and give myself another chance, I’m really, really happy about that.”

The American has been on a strong run at her home major, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in her career. This performance has clearly boosted her confidence. “I feel like it’s going to be a really tough challenge, but I feel like I’ve been playing well,” she added. “I’m sure it’s going to be a great match and I hope I can put on a good performance.”

Anisimova’s journey to the quarterfinals was not without its challenges. She entered the 2025 US Open struggling with shaky form after early exits in the Canadian and Cincinnati Opens. Her participation in the revamped mixed doubles event with Holger Rune also ended quickly, with the pair eliminated in the first round.

However, she has found her form in singles, dropping only a single set to Jaqueline Cristian on her way to the last eight.

After securing her quarterfinal spot, Anisimova spoke about managing the unique pressures of playing in New York. “Going into this (the US Open), I truly was taking it one match at a time,” she explained. “Never really made it this far at the US Open, so it really means a lot. I know how hard it is to play at this Slam just because it’s the city, and I feel like there’s a lot going on.”

She continued, “It puts a little bit more pressure on the American players, I think. But I really just tried to embrace I think since the first day. I feel like with the mixed doubles also, the fact that I was here like earlier and had that week to prepare also really helped me.”

Currently ranked No. 9 in the PIF-WTA rankings, Anisimova is expected to climb even higher following her impressive run in New York. The winner of this quarterfinal will advance to face either Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova in the semifinals.
