Saints Legend Drew Brees Reveals 1 NFL QB Who’s ‘Like a Surgeon’ With ‘Swagger’

Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees is highly impressed by one current NFL signal-caller and his playmaking abilities.

Drew Brees knows a thing or two about playing quarterback in the National Football League. He won a Super Bowl while playing for the New Orleans Saints. Brees still keeps his eye on quarterback play in the NFL, especially one that he’s definitely impressed with right now.

Brees has observed quarterbacks like Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen and Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson. There’s one more, though, that he really likes a lot.

Which NFL QB Impresses Drew Brees?

Brees spent time giving some flowers to Cincinnati Bengals starter Joe Burrow, who came into the NFL after some solid play in college at LSU.

“Like, Joe Burrow to me is just like a surgeon, like a technician,” Brees said while being interviewed by Kevin Clark for ESPN’s “This is Football.” “He’s very much…I relate most to him from the perspective that he’s got that very disciplined drop.”

“Like everything just has, like a very specific technique to it that you can tell is trained, practiced, and the command at the line of scrimmage,” Brees said. “You know, just a little bit of that swagger that you try to play with.”

What Can Joe Burrow Bring To Fantasy Players?

In the 2024 season, Burrow completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and a 108.5 QB rating. Burrow is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and has won two NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors. He’s been able to remain a steady influence on the Bengals roster during his pro career.

Now, with fantasy players looking to put their teams together, is Burrow worth drafting for a team? PFSN’s Kyle Soppe offers some advice to players right now.

“Let’s be clear: Joe Cool isn’t a stiff pocket passer allergic to the open field (remember the 47-yard TD run against the Giants in that ugly win last season?),” Soppe wrote. “He’s just not the hyper-athlete that can save four fantasy weeks a season with his legs alone.”

“He’s coming off a season in which he set a career-high in touchdown rate (6.6%) while posting the second-lowest interception rate (1.4%) during his time in the NFL,” according to Soppe. “The scary part is that I think he has room to grow, given that the Bengals elected to get the band back together for another season.”

Cincinnati opens its 2025 NFL season on the road against the AFC Central Division rival Cleveland Browns. Burrow gets a chance to challenge the Browns’ defense while Cleveland sends out veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in the opener.

Look for Burrow to be “Joe Cool” on the field when the Bengals are on offense.
