Brady Tkachuk Pours Cold Water On Panic Around Matthew Tkachuk’s Injury

Brady Tkachuk has given the latest update on the health of his brother Matthew Tkachuk.

The Florida Panthers’ back-to-back Stanley Cup championships came with a price. Matthew Tkachuk battled through devastating injuries to help deliver that second title, but the toll was severe.

As he recovers from surgery, one question looms: Will he be ready for the 2026 Winter Olympics?

How Serious Are Matthew Tkachuk’s Injuries?

Tkachuk initially suffered the injuries while representing Team USA in the Four Nations Face-Off tournament in February. The damage was significant enough to sideline him for the regular season. However, he returned for the postseason and played through the pain, helping the Panthers capture their second consecutive Stanley Cup.

The extent of his injuries became clear after the celebration ended. Tkachuk suffered a torn adductor and a sports hernia, ailments that required surgical intervention. He has undergone the necessary procedures and is expected to miss the first several months of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Despite the severity of these injuries, Tkachuk’s determination shone through during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He gave everything he had while dealing with painful conditions that would have sidelined many players.

What Does Brady Tkachuk Say About His Brother’s Recovery?

Matthew’s brother Brady Tkachuk, who serves as team captain of the Ottawa Senators and was his teammate with Team USA, has provided the latest update on his brother’s condition. The news is encouraging.

“He’s doing great. He’s feeling good,” Matthew’s brother, Brady Tkachuk, said Wednesday. “I’ve been talking to him basically every day, especially since we’ve been here; he’s had the most FOMO that I’ve ever seen him have.”

Brady’s optimism extends beyond just the recovery process. When asked about Matthew’s availability for the 2026 Winter Olympics, he expressed complete confidence in his brother’s return to elite form.

“I think it’s a full expectation of him not just to play, but be at his best,” Brady Tkachuk said. “It goes back to the injuries that he has had and he’s played through, he’ll just give you absolutely everything that he has.”

The younger Tkachuk brother believes the recovery period will actually benefit Matthew’s long-term performance. “I know with his preparation and his work ethic that he’ll probably be in the best shape he’s ever been in after this surgery.”

How Did the Four Nations Face-Off Impact Both Brothers?

Both Tkachuk brothers made their mark during the Four Nations Face-Off tournament, though not always in conventional ways. The highly anticipated matchup against Canada featured an explosive start that showcased the brothers’ aggressive style.

In the opening seconds of that crucial game, both brothers dropped the gloves simultaneously. Matthew fought Brandon Hagel while Brady immediately engaged Matthew’s Panthers teammate Sam Bennett in separate scrums that set the tone for the entire contest.

Team USA emerged victorious in that opening matchup against Canada with a 3-1 final score. However, Canada ultimately claimed the tournament championship with a thrilling overtime victory over Team USA in the final game.

Before his injuries derailed his season, Tkachuk was performing at an elite level. In the 52 games he played prior to the Four Nations Face-Off, he tallied 22 goals with 35 assists for 57 points. That production represented just over a point-per-game pace, demonstrating his absence’s significant impact on the Panthers’ regular-season efforts.
