A lot of NFL teams have been busy getting their rosters finalized ahead of the 2025 regular season. This has been a time where teams and players put their best efforts forward and hope for the best.
The 2025 NFL preseason was a time when coaches and general managers took long, hard looks at who they had available. It was also a time when players who wanted to earn roster spots worked extra hard to get one.
But it’s now time to focus on the regular season and get it going.
When Does NFL Week 1 Start for the 2025 Season?
With no more preseason games on the schedule, it’s just a matter of time before the official opening kickoff takes place. Teams will now get a chance to put their 53-man rosters to good use.
Once again, the 2025 NFL schedule lines up some interesting matchups. Things get started in earnest on Thursday, September 4, 2025, as the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys.
Eagles fans are hopeful that quarterback Jalen Hurts can lead them back to the NFL’s promised land. Cowboys fans will hope that with the drama between defensive end Micah Parsons and owner-general manager Jerry Jones finally behind them, the team can focus on performing at its best.

Parsons’ trade to the Green Bay Packers is arguably one of the biggest in NFL history and is expected to remain a major storyline heading into the season opener. Dallas fans, however, will be glad to see quarterback Dak Prescott back leading the Cowboys’ offense.
Then, on Friday, September 5, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce will lead the Super Bowl runner-up Kansas City Chiefs against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.
Pittsburgh Steelers fans will also be watching to see how new starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers performs in the opener. Rodgers came to the Steelers after playing last season for the New York Jets.
That said, here’s how the Week 1 schedule looks. All kickoff times are Eastern time.
