If you’re excited for Week 1 of college football, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns heading to Columbus to face the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes is a big reason why.
Texas HC Steve Sarkisian hopes to get revenge after losing to Ryan Day’s team last year, and this matchup is a great way to kick off the season. In fact, this is the first time in college football history that the season kicks off with a Week 1 top-three showdown.

Texas vs. Ohio State Head-to-Head Record
For how long these two programs have played college football, it’s surprising that they’ve met a combined four times. The series is tied at two apiece, with the most recent matchup favoring the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff last season.
College Football Predictions Week 1: Projecting Every Single Game Including Texas vs. Ohio State
We should expect to see this matchup more often in this new age of college football. An expanded College Football Playoff and (hopefully) tougher scheduling could pit these two against each other more often. That’s only going to grow the sport and get the fanbases even more hyped for future seasons.

Texas vs. Ohio State Prediction
A loss here doesn’t eliminate either team from the College Football Playoff, but a win immediately strengthens their resumes.
There’s a ton of pressure on new starting QBs Arch Manning (Texas) and Julian Sayin (Ohio State), but Manning has big game experience already that should help him. Sayin is talented and gets to throw to the best receiver group in the country, so that helps.

Ohio State’s turnover might mean this group needs time to gel, but that doesn’t mean they can’t compete in this one.
Texas must find a way to slow down WR Jeremiah Smith, but their defense is loaded this year. The Longhorns may be underdogs with the spread, but I think they walk out of Columbus with revenge and a win.
Prediction: Texas 31, Ohio State 28
