A simple practice play nearly sent the Baltimore Ravens’ season into a tailspin. When quarterback Lamar Jackson went down with a foot injury this week, the team and its fans held their collective breath.
With the regular season just around the corner, any significant injury to the two-time MVP could derail their championship aspirations before they even begin. So, what’s the latest on the severity of the injury and his potential return?
How Serious Is the Injury to Ravens QB Lamar Jackson?
On Wednesday, the star quarterback had his foot stepped on during a drill, which resulted in an awkward hit. The initial news came from ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter, who provided details in this Instagram clip.

“It sounds like it was a little bit scarier than the Ravens let on,” Schefter said.
“Because they did take X-rays, they did say there were no signs of any broken bones or any issues. … He didn’t practice [Thursday], second straight day. And look, they don’t have to have Lamar Jackson out there right now, they need him out there for the start of the regular season. So I’d imagine they’ll give that foot a couple of weeks to heal.”
There are a few key takeaways from Schefter’s report. First, the team conducted multiple tests, and with no broken bones or structural damage found, the Ravens avoided a disastrous scenario. A serious injury like a fracture would have forced Jackson to miss significant time.
Perhaps most importantly, Jackson himself replied to the social media post with a laughing emoji, signaling that he isn’t taking the situation too seriously.

Missing a couple of practices this late in the preseason shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Jackson is the centerpiece of the Ravens’ offense and possesses a complete understanding of the system.
For a veteran player, the best course of action is often rest to ensure he is fully healed. The next meaningful snap the franchise expects Jackson to take is in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills on September 7.
With the immediate injury fears subsiding, the focus returns to the larger picture for Baltimore. Last season, Jackson was phenomenal, setting a career high in yards with 4,172 and surpassing the 41 touchdown mark for the first time. The team looked poised for a deep playoff run.
However, Baltimore’s season ended in heartbreak. Needing a two-point conversion to take a late lead against the Bills, Jackson found tight end Mark Andrews wide open in the end zone. But Andrews dropped the pass, a play that effectively ended their season.
The question now is whether the Ravens can rebound from that devastating finish and finally get this version of the team to a Super Bowl.
