Kansas State defender Tobi Osunsanmi is gaining attention for more than his production on the field. His sack celebration has quickly become a viral highlight. Fans of Kansas State football were initially unsure how to interpret the move, but its uniqueness has made it stand out in college football.
Kansas State Football Spotlight: Tobi Osunsanmi Explained His Unique Sack Celebration
Osunsanmi has turned a simple gesture into one of college football’s most memorable celebrations. After recording a sack, the Kansas State defensive end locks into a frozen pose, a move that traces back to his first year with the Wildcats.
“It was from my freshman year when we went to the Sugar Bowl,” Osunsanmi said. “There was just some guy on Bourbon Street who was just standing there like that the whole time so I just brought it back. I was planning it during spring ball. That’s when I thought of it again and decided I might as well do it.”
He broke it out twice last season in a 41-6 win over Tennessee-Martin at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Teammate Damian Ilalio recalled the original moment in New Orleans, saying Osunsanmi mimicked the street performer on the spot.
“Ever since then he’s just done it in practice,” Ilalio said.
Osunsanmi, who once played linebacker and safety, accepted a move to defensive end.
“At first I was like, ‘No, I’m not doing that.’ But it ended up happening now, and I feel like it was God’s plan,” he said.
