The NFL wide receiver market is heating up as the season approaches, with multiple contending teams scrambling to address their passing game needs. While some teams are dealing with injuries and suspensions, others see an opportunity to upgrade their receiving corps before Week 1 kicks off.
Which Teams Are Actively Pursuing Wide Receiver Help?
According to NFL Insider Diana Russini, the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, and San Francisco 49ers are all actively exploring veteran pass-catching options ahead of the 2025 season.
Each team faces unique challenges driving their search. The Vikings are dealing with a looming suspension for Jordan Addison while star Justin Jefferson nurses a hamstring injury, though he should be ready for the season opener. Adding to their concerns, Rondale Moore is out for the second consecutive season with a knee injury, and Jalen Nailor suffered a hand injury during joint practice with the New England Patriots.
Meanwhile, the Jets and 49ers have their own roster needs pushing them toward veteran receiving talent.
What Makes Adam Thielen an Appealing Target?
Vikings fans would love to see fan favorite and local hero Adam Thielen return for one last run with the organization that made him a star. After 10 years as a member of the Vikings, the team released Thielen in 2023. He signed with the Carolina Panthers and has remained productive despite inconsistent quarterback play, recording 1,629 receiving yards and nine touchdowns across his two seasons in Carolina.
The Vikings’ need for veteran leadership aligns perfectly with what Thielen offers, as reported by Tom Pelissero.
With Jordan Addison suspended and multiple injuries, the #Vikings are seriously exploring veteran receivers in the trade market, per sources.

Now 34, Thielen has lost a step but remains one of the savviest pass catchers in the game. His veteran presence and sure hands would benefit J.J. McCarthy as he enters his first season as a starting quarterback in the NFL. That same reliability could bring stability to either Jets quarterback Justin Fields or 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
Since he’s currently under contract with the Panthers, any team interested in Thielen will likely need to surrender a late-round pick to acquire him.
Why Could Jahan Dotson Be Available for Trade?
Teams needing wide receiver help could try to pry third-year receiver Jahan Dotson from the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles acquired Dotson from the Washington Commanders last season, but he underwhelmed with just 216 receiving yards during the regular season. However, he came through when it mattered most, delivering two key catches for 42 yards in Super Bowl LIX.
The Eagles have A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith as their unquestioned starters, and they also traded for John Metchie from the Houston Texans while signing Terrace Marshall Jr. during the offseason. With their receiver room now crowded, the Eagles could be tempted if the right trade offer for Dotson comes along.
Additionally, Romeo Doubs could find himself squeezed out of the Green Bay Packers’ increasingly crowded wide receiver room. The Packers broke from tradition by drafting Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, marking the first time since 2002 they selected a receiver in the first round. They also added Savion Williams in the third round, further intensifying the competition for targets.
Despite accumulating 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns across three seasons, Doubs struggled with seven drops last season and has been nursing a back injury during training camp. With an abundance of bodies now in their receiver room, the Packers could look to move Doubs to create salary cap space.
