Taylor Townsend shared her thoughts following the conclusion of her run in the mixed doubles event at the US Open alongside Ben Shelton.

Taylor Townsend recently shared her thoughts following the conclusion of her run at the 2025 US Open mixed doubles competition. She teamed up with fellow American Ben Shelton and received a Wild Card entry into the main draw at Flushing Meadows.

Townsend’s best performance in the mixed doubles at the Grand Slam came in 2024 when she and Donald Young reached the final and finished as runner-ups, losing to the Italian team of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

How Did Taylor Townsend React After Losing in Mixed Doubles at US Open Alongside Partner Ben Shelton?

Townsend and Shelton began their campaign at the 2025 US Open by defeating the fourth-seeded team of Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune in the first round with a scoreline of 4-2, 5-4(2). Their run came to an end in the quarterfinals, where they lost to compatriots Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison with a 4-1, 5-4(2) score.

After the defeat to Collins and Harrison, Townsend took to social media to share a series of pictures of herself and Shelton from their time at the tournament. She expressed her hope that fans enjoyed the “show” they put on during their matches.

“We made for this, I hope you guys enjoyed the show✨ 💡 📷 🎬 ,” Townsend captioned her Instagram post.

Looking ahead, Townsend and Shelton are expected to next compete in the singles event of the 2025 US Open, scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Last year, Townsend defeated Martina Trevisan in the first round before losing to Paula Badosa in the second round. Meanwhile, Shelton triumphed over Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista Agut in the first two rounds before falling to compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the third round.

What Are Taylor Townsend & Ben Shelton’s Best Results at the US Open?

Townsend achieved her best result in the singles event at the US Open in 2019. She earned her spot in the main draw of the Grand Slam by defeating Natalija Kostić (6-3, 6-1), Verónica Cepede Royg (3-6, 6-3, 6-3), and Nina Stojanović (3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1) during the qualifying rounds.

In the main draw, Townsend defeated Kateryna Baindl in the first round with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. She then overcame fourth seed Simona Halep in the second round, winning 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), and followed this by beating Sorana Cîrstea 7-5, 6-2 in the third round. Her run came to an end in the fourth round, where she lost to the eventual champion, 15th seed Bianca Andreescu, with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 2-6.

On the other hand, Shelton’s best result at the US Open came in 2023. He began his campaign by defeating Pedro Cachin 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. He advanced to the third round after his second-round opponent, Thiem, retired during the second set of their match with the score at 7-6(1), 1-0 retd.

The World No. 6 triumphed over Aslan Karatsev 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 and compatriot, 14th seed, Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, Shelton eliminated 10th seed Tiafoe with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(9), 6-2. However, Shelton’s campaign ended in the semifinals when he lost to the eventual champion, second seed Novak Djokovic, with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(4).
