Clemson QB Cade Klubnik Talks 2024 Struggles and 2025 Focus

Clemson quarterback Klubnik reflected on Clemson’s 2024 season and offered insight into his preparation for 2025 during an appearance on “ACC Network’s Road Trip.” Klubnik described the past weeks with the team as rewarding, saying,

“Man, it’s been fun. Just getting to go to work with these guys every single day. You know, it starts up front and those guys have been leading us, starts in the trenches. But we’ve just kind of put our head down and gone to work.”

He emphasized that this mentality extended beyond fall camp and defined the entire season as the team focused on improving their craft. When asked about his personal goals, Klubnik highlighted red zone efficiency as a priority.

“Number one is just red zone offense. We got down there a lot last year, but we want to score more touchdowns. At the end of the day, that’s what you want to go do.”

He also stressed his desire to improve as a thrower on the run, saying, “Anything within 20 yards, I want that to be like a handoff. I want that to be elite.” Leadership remained central to his approach, and he noted the importance of building strong relationships with receivers and trusting in Coach Riley.

On managing the roster, Klubnik said, “I don’t think that’s my job… my job is to manage the game and create big plays. They’re all going to score a lot of touchdowns and have a great year.”

His focus remains clear: improve efficiency, lead effectively, and capitalize on Clemson’s depth in 2025.

Cade Klubnik Credits Swinney for Confidence Boost Amid Early Career Struggles

Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik credits Coach Dabo Swinney for preventing him from entering the transfer portal early in his career after a sophomore season filled with criticism. Following his 19-touchdown, nine-interception 2023 season, Klubnik recalled,

“Everybody kind of told me I sucked, and wasn’t very good. A lot of people wanted me out of Clemson.”

After Clemson’s Gator Bowl win over Kentucky, Klubnik said a spontaneous meeting with Swinney completely changed his perspective.

“To have somebody that I look up to and believe in, tell me that he believes in me, it just filled me with confidence,” he said. “He could have gone and done what a lot of other coaches would do [and find a transfer quarterback], but he didn’t.”

As Klubnik enters his third year with Garrett Riley as play-caller, he is regarded as one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the ACC and a potential first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
