Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin once again targeted Auburn’s Hugh Freeze on social media, this time responding to criticism of Auburn’s confusing offensive structure. While Kiffin likes to mock others from his current winning spot, his own coaching past shows major failures that should make him more humble.
Latest Trolling Episode Amid Auburn’s Play-Calling Confusion
Kiffin’s latest social media jab came when he posted a fire emoji in response to a Reddit CFB X post criticizing Auburn’s complex offensive system.
The post highlighted how Auburn will use three different play-callers and potentially three different quarterbacks this season. It jokingly called the setup “absolutely impossible to defend against” and said, “Tigers are going nuclear.”

The fire emoji was Kiffin’s way of jumping on the joke. He loves using X to poke fun at Freeze and Auburn whenever he gets the chance.
Kiffin has been targeting his Auburn counterpart all year long. Earlier this month, he mocked Auburn’s three-headed play-calling system with the post: “So does a 4th coach call 4th downs?? 🤔 @AuburnFootball.”
Sports analyst Aaron Torres pushed back against the criticism of Kiffin’s trolling, writing: “Lane Kiffin’s tweets are hysterical until you remember:
1. He lost to Kentucky as a 17.5 point home favorite
2. Battled back into playoff contention only to lose a must-win game to UF
3. Then whined about getting left out the playoff. Maybe he should worry about his own team?”

Despite his criticism, Torres then defended the comparison between coaches in subsequent posts, writing:
“Hugh Freeze through 5 years at Ole Miss – two New Years 6 bowl games, one Top 10 finish” and “Lane Kiffin through 5 years at Ole Miss – two New Year’s 6 Bowl games and one Top 10 finish.”

Kiffin’s early career disasters include becoming the youngest NFL head coach in modern history at Oakland and posting a 5-15 record before getting fired mid-season.
In 2009, his sole season at Tennessee ended with a 7-6 record and lots of controversy before he left for USC in the middle of the night.
His time at USC from 2010-2013 ended with the famous tarmac firing after a crushing 62-41 loss to Arizona State. Even though he had a decent 28-15 overall record, his final 11 games were awful at 4-7, leading to one of the most embarrassing coaching firings ever.
However, Kiffin has found success at Ole Miss with a 44-18 record and three 10-win seasons, but his history shows he should be careful about getting too cocky. His biggest wins have come against weaker teams, and he still hasn’t won a major championship as a head coach.
