What Happened to Malik Nabers, and Is the Giants Star in Danger of Missing Week 1?

Giants WR Malik Nabers is nursing multiple injuries and has missed over a week of practice. Here’s the latest update on his status for Week 1.

New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers was on a roll in 2024 and finished the season with 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. With the Giants having a relatively better QB room in 2025, expectations were high for the second-year star to take another leap forward.

However, Nabers’ season has hit an early snag. He sat out the Giants’ preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills and is now expected to miss the Week 2 matchup with the Jets as he works through toe and shoulder injuries.

How Long Is Malik Nabers Expected To Remain Out?

Nabers hasn’t taken the field since leaving practice early last Wednesday, and both he and the Giants have been cryptic about the details of his injury.

“You know, not going to get any injuries. He’s working hard to get back,” Daboll said on Thursday.

The receiver has been dealing with a toe injury dating back to his collegiate days and a shoulder injury he suffered early in the training camp. However, he refused to go into the details of his injuries during his last media interaction and said he was doing fine.

“I’m doing fine,” Nabers said. “You know, the coaches and the training staff have a process of what they want me to do to be healthy for when we get ready to play, so I just got to do my job and follow the plan that they got put ahead of me.”

But according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the issue Nabers is currently dealing with is minor and not related to his toe or shoulder.

“I heard from a source that it’s not a toe injury. It’s a different injury than the toe and the shoulder,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue podcast. “It’s a very minor thing, and he’ll be good.

“It definitely doesn’t seem like it’s bad, but it’s another minor injury for Malik Nabers. Maybe it’s not serious now, but it’s certainly something when all these little knocks keep piling up — it does seem to be something we have to keep an eye on moving forward.”

While Daboll confirmed that some starters will see action against the Jets on Saturday, Nabers is unlikely to be among them. Having missed over a week of practice, the Giants are expected to play it safe with their top receiver, prioritizing his presence for Week 1 over any preseason reps.
