How Much Are The Oilers Worth? Edmonton Fails To Crack NHL’s Top 5 Most Valuable Teams List

When it comes to the Big 5 American leagues, the sky is the limit as far as team value is concerned. While the NFL teams have been at the top of the hill for what seems like forever, in recent years, teams across the other leagues are also sneaking their way in.

This includes a few NHL teams as well. But while some usual suspects like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens remained in the top five of the most valuable NHL teams in 2025, the Edmonton Oilers were nowhere near that mark.

So how much are the five-time Stanley Cup winners worth?

Edmonton Oilers Miss Out On Top 5 Most Valuable NHL Teams

The Oilers have been one of the most dominant teams in recent years, reaching back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals. With a roster full of top-level hockey players like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard, they were expected to be among the most valuable franchises in the NHL.

But when Sportico revealed its list of all the major sports franchises in America along with their valuations, Oilers fans were visibly surprised. Edmonton missed the top five.

While NFL, NBA and MLB teams dominated the list for the top 50, the NHL wasn’t all that far behind baseball and basketball franchises.

But as the Maple Leafs led the charts for the NHL with a valuation of $3.66 billion, the Rangers, Canadiens, Bruins, and LA Kings closed out the top five. Interestingly, the Oilers weren’t even number six, with the Blackhawks taking that spot.

Chicago narrowly edged out Edmonton with a net worth of $2.45 billion, as compared to Edmonton’s $2.4 billion. This is borderline surprising considering the Oilers have been one of the most consistent teams in the league in the past few years.

In comparison, the Bruins and the Canadiens, while being historically championship contenders, have been shaky in their playoff runs recently, to say the least. But even more surprising is the fact that the two-time defending champions, the Florida Panthers, didn’t even crack the top ten.

Instead, the Panthers, with a valuation of just $1.25 billion – nearly half of the Oilers’ net worth – were at #26 among the 32 franchises. This points to an interesting fact: historically successful teams are still worth more than recent expansions.

And while “Original Six” teams like Toronto, Montreal, and Boston haven’t won in years, they have still maintained a valuation higher than newer teams like the Vegas Golden Knights, who won a title just a few seasons ago.
