Clemson fans heading to the 2025 opener against LSU are about to experience changes they’ve been asking for – and a few twists that break decades of tradition. Will these upgrades make Death Valley even louder, safer, and wilder? Nobody’s sure yet, but one thing’s clear: this isn’t your old Clemson gameday anymore.

How Will Dabo Swinney’s Stadium Upgrades Change the Clemson Tigers’ Fan Experience?

With Dabo Swinney calling the shots, Memorial Stadium, home of the Clemson Tigers, is getting a serious refresh focused on fans. The stadium, packed with space for 81,500, now features changes that go beyond a fresh coat of paint – these are the basics fans have been asking about for a long time.

One of the biggest differences? New handrails stretch the entire lower deck. These rails are all about safety, built to help folks manage those legendary steep concrete stairs. As WYFF reporter Peyton Furtado said on a stadium tour, “It’s one of the things that fans have been asking for for years now.” Now, crowded game days become a bit easier to handle with extra support on every trip to and from the seats.

But that’s just the start. For the first time in decades, Clemson will begin selling alcohol inside Memorial Stadium – a big shift for a school that didn’t even allow alcohol sponsorships before now.

The days of being one of just three Power Four colleges holding out are over. Expect to see Aramark stands selling drinks all over the stadium, so fans won’t have to travel far to find their beverage of choice.

To keep things safe, Clemson is teaming up with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety on a designated driver program. According to Furtado, “So what you’re going to look for this is where you can sign up to be a designated driver. So how this works you can come in you can sign on and get a wristband to be a designated driver here at Clemson and in return they’ll give you a voucher for a free non-alcoholic beverage.”

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway is all about safety, too. He made it clear that making the right decisions doesn’t just protect you, but everybody headed home after the game.

“Traffic safety is really important. You know we all use vehicles. You know I use a vehicle every day. My family does. You use a vehicle every day. Your family does and everybody that’s listening. So it’s important that we make the right decision that way we can not only just protect ourselves but protect everybody else out there.”

But the changes go beyond drinks and handrails. Clemson is rolling out new lactation rooms for nursing mothers and Sensory Inclusion initiatives that show just how wide the focus on fans goes.

This season, Memorial Stadium will offer sensory bags with noise-canceling headphones and sunglasses, making the atmosphere more comfortable for anyone sensitive to noise or flashing lights.

Furtado explained, “Basically, these bags are full of different things. These are noise-canceling headphones. These sunglasses they keep away some of the glare. Some of the flashing lights. Basically, these are here for people who have sensory issues or sensitivities.”

All these upgrades are more than just bells and whistles – they are about keeping Memorial Stadium at the top of the college football experience while making sure every fan feels welcome, safe, and part of the action.
