Man Behind Michigan’s Top 2027 QB Peter Bourque’s Commitment Revealed

Rivals insider Steve Wiltfong reveals the key figure behind securing Michigan’s commitment of top 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque.

The Michigan Wolverines struggled with quarterback play in 2024, with no quarterback on the roster throwing for over 1,200 yards. That’s looking to change in 2025, as the program landed the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, Bryce Underwood.

Not only are the Wovleriens set up for success at the quarterback position for Underwood’s career, but they now have secured his successor, as 2027 four-star Peter Bourque committed to the team Monday. Now, one insider is revealing the person behind Michigan’s turnaround at the quarterback position.

Insider Reveals Key Figure Behind Michigan’s Top 2027 QB Peter Bourque’s Commitment

After a disastrous passing season in 2024, Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore fired offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and brought in Chip Lindsey to lead the team’s offense in 2025 and be the quarterback coach.

Lindsey brings years of experience, having worked as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for various college programs since 2014. He most recently coached at North Carolina during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

His background working with quarterbacks was a key reason Michigan hired him. The Wolverines are relying on him to develop Bryce Underwood during his freshman season and beyond.

Michigan also landed another top quarterback Monday: four-star Peter Bourque, who Rivals ranked the No. 7 quarterback in the 2027 class.

According to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, the man behind Bourque’s commitment was Lindsey, who served as the young quarterback’s primary recruiter.

“Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey was the lead recruiter for the 6’4″, 205-pound Bourque who visited Ann Arbor over the summer for camp,” Wiltfong wrote. “Other programs that extended a scholarship included Florida, Oregon, and Texas A&M.”

With Bourque set to arrive in Ann Arbor in the fall of 2027, the Wolverines have laid the groundwork to secure their quarterback position for the foreseeable future, and as Wiltfong points out, they have Lindsey to thank for that.

Lindsey played a key role in Drake Maye’s 2023 season, during which the Tar Heels quarterback threw for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions before becoming the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If Lindsey can help develop Underwood and Borque at Michigan the way he did Maye, the Wolverines’ offense could be a force for years to come. The “Lindsey Effect” is already in full swing at Michigan. Bourque, who is only entering his junior year of high school, is already the eighth highest-ranked quarterback commit in school history.

Lindsey will need to recruit other key offensive pieces around Bourque in Michigan’s 2027 class, but landing this young signal-caller is a fantastic start to his first full recruiting cycle as the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator.
