Sabalenka had previously voiced her thoughts on the “crazy schedule,” calling herself lucky as her boyfriend Georgios Frangulis travels with her during tournaments.
Talking about the short break between Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Sabalenka said, “it was like really getting worse and worse. So I felt like, okay, maybe I just need to step back, like take a little break and like just chill and recharge and start everything over again,” calling US Open as her primary focus.
Sabalenka Explains Why She Took Her Break After Wimbledon
After reaching the Wimbledon semifinals, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova on July 10, Sabalenka decided to take time off. She skipped the Canadian Open in Montreal to rest and recharge.
During her break, Sabalenka went to Greece with her boyfriend Frangulis. She joked about how relaxed she was during the vacation. “I didn’t even go to the gym, I did one workout – 30 minutes incline walking. I was in my bikini and flip flops just so you know how professional I was,” she said while laughing.
The break lasted about seven to eight days, and Sabalenka says it was exactly what she needed. “It was amazing days, I felt so good and much needed and now I’m fresh and ready,” she said.
Sabalenka is back on the tennis courts now for the Cincinnati Open, where she is the defending champion. Her main focus is to prepare for the US Open, which starts just one week later, where she is again the defending champion.
