Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez recently gave fans a delightful behind-the-scenes look at her first-ever real date, sharing a playful video on Instagram. The 22-year-old recounted how she prepped for the special outing in Montreal, revealing her nerves, fashion doubts, and sisterly advice that helped her get through it.
Leylah Fernandez’s Montreal Date Prep Included a Stylish Reality Check from Sister Bianca
Fernandez decided to break from her routine after a tough Wimbledon 2025 campaign. Eager for something fun and out of the ordinary, she posted a cheeky video inviting one lucky fan to go out with her in Montreal for one hour. She clarified that she wasn’t a big fan of dating apps or sites and simply wanted to try something new and fun.
Days after publishing the playful video invitation, Fernandez turned her season around at the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open, winning her first title in nearly two years. However, her return home to Montreal was short-lived competitively, as she lost in the first round of the singles and doubles event (with sister Bianca as partner) at the National Bank Open.
Despite the on-court setback, Fernandez embraced the moment and chose to enjoy her time in the city with family and friends. She later took to Instagram to share a set of pictures and videos showing her exploring amusement parks and arcades with her sister Bianca and close friends. In one video, she was seen dancing to Dance Dance Revolution in a lively arcade arena.
But the highlight of her post-Montreal content came in a video where Fernandez opened up about her date preparations. “Okay, guys, I know everyone’s been asking and wondering, when’s your date? Who’s your date? Well, here it is. I am getting ready for my date and I’m nervous,” she admitted. “Like there’s like a thousand different questions, thoughts that’s going on in my head. What outfit am I wearing?”

Fernandez went on to describe how she turned to her younger sister, Bianca, for help with her outfit selection. She held up a pair of pants she thought were stylish, only to be hilariously shot down. “I’m showing her pants that I thought looked cute. And she’s like, ‘Are you going on a business trip?’” Fernandez said with a laugh. “That’s for the date. It’s one of my nice pants. I like it. She’s like, ‘No, this is not it.’”
Eventually, she settled on an outfit and turned to her fans for feedback: “Here, this is the final outfit. Let me know what you think. If it’s too business-like, if it’s not casual enough.”
In the next clip, a smiling Fernandez updated her fans with a post-date debrief. “Okay, guys, I just came back from my date. It went really well, at least I think so. I hope he had fun.”
Meanwhile, Fernandez is gearing up for the Cincinnati Open, where she is seeded 21st. The Canadian tennis star received a bye into the second round, where she will take on either wildcard Venus Williams or Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
