With the loss of Josh Palmer in free agency and Mike Williams’ unexpected retirement, the Los Angeles Chargers’ wide receiver room is depleted, to say the least. However, that could change as a veteran free agent wideout visits the team today, signaling a possible signing is coming soon.
Chargers Host 66-TD Veteran WR in Free Agent Visit to Boost Receiving Corps
It’s no secret that the Chargers need help at wide receiver. Los Angeles is returning only two receivers from last year who had more than 50 catches and 700 yards: Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey.
The good news is that there are still solid options available in free agency, including former Chargers star Keenan Allen, who is visiting the team today.
An Allen and Chargers reunion would be poetic after the team traded him in the 2024 offseason to the Chicago Bears. Allen began his career in L.A. after the organization drafted him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He played for the Chargers for eleven seasons and has been one of the NFL’s top receivers throughout his career. Over 12 years, he totaled 11,274 yards and 66 touchdowns. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and holds the second most 100-catch seasons in NFL history with five.
While Allen has undoubtedly lost a step, he still produced with the Bears last year, catching 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in fifteen games.

Allen would be a welcome addition for the Chargers, who have needed an upgrade at receiver since trading him last year. While he may not be the same athlete he once was, Allen remains one of the league’s best route runners and would provide a reliable safety blanket for quarterback Justin Herbert.
Herbert and Allen already have chemistry. The veteran wideout was the young quarterback’s go-to option during his first four years in the league. Allen had 1,000 yards in two of those seasons and could produce similarly if placed in the right role.

While the visit doesn’t guarantee that Allen will sign with the Chargers, his history with the team, his previous statement about only playing in 2025 for either Chicago or one of the Los Angeles teams, and the fact that his family still lives in California all suggest that a reunion is likely.
It’ll be interesting to see how the visit plays out, but assuming that things go well, there’s a real chance fans get to see Allen in a Chargers uniform once again.
