Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice made headlines a few weeks ago when he was sentenced to five years’ deferred probation and 30 days in jail stemming from his role in a multi-vehicle crash during a 2024 street racing incident in Dallas, TX.
Rice has yet to receive a suspension from the NFL, so he has fully participated in the Chiefs’ training camp. He’s fully recovered from the ACL he tore in Week 4 of the 2025 season and is performing well.
Coach Andy Reid Has an Awkward Moment
When asked how Rice has been performing in camp, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid responded succinctly, if not awkwardly.
“On the field, he’s just been full speed ahead,” Reid said. “No pun intended.” He had previously broken the bubble of speculation around suspension.
Rice, 25, entered a guilty plea to two third-degree felony charges: Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Racing on a Highway Causing Bodily Injury.
He also fled the scene and was ordered by the court to pay medical restitution to all victims, totalling $115,481.91. He is far from done as he faces multiple civil lawsuits that could result in settlements reaching millions of dollars.
However, Rice has been performing well on the field during camp and is expected to be the centerpiece of a dangerous Chiefs receiving corps.

Rice appeared to be establishing himself as a top threat in the NFL before he tore his ACL during an awkward play in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
His was one of many injuries that hampered the Chiefs’ passing game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes finished with 3,928 passing yards for 245.5 PYG, just 26 touchdowns (his fewest since 2019), and a 93.5 QBR.
Thanks to Rice and Hollywood Brown’s injuries, the Chiefs were hampered in their deep passing game. In 2024, the Chiefs ranked 27th in 20+ yard plays. Travis Kelce also had a down year, and Mahomes subsequently had to do more with less.
Even with the offense having an off year, the Chiefs still finished tied for the best record in the NFL with the Detroit Lions (15-2) and made a run to Super Bowl LIX.
However, their offensive deficiencies were exposed by a physically superior Philadelphia Eagles defense that had no reason to play them honestly. Mahomes played arguably his worst football in the first half. He completed six of 14 passes for 33 yards and threw two interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown, and the other resulted in another Eagles score.
The Chiefs play their first preseason game on August 9 against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, AZ.
