Taylor Fritz Gives Honest Opinion on ‘Outperforming’ Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner– ‘They’re Both Beatable’

Taylor Fritz speaks about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner and discusses how the two can be beaten

Taylor Fritz addressed the media in a press conference ahead of his Canadian Open campaign. During the press conference, he was asked about his season, the upcoming US Open, and the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Earlier this year, Fritz faced Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semifinals, where he lost 4-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-7(6). Alcaraz, however, could not get over the final hurdle and fell to Sinner, who won the men’s singles title with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

“Those Two Are Outperforming the Field” – Taylor Fritz Speaks About Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

At the press conference, one reporter asked Fritz about Alcaraz’s comments after the Wimbledon final, in which he stated that he and Sinner were better than the rest of the field. Fritz said, “Yeah, I mean, obviously we had a pretty close match at Wimbledon. But, yeah, I mean, you can’t argue the fact that they’re outperforming. Those two are outperforming the field, so that’s a fair thing to say.”

Speaking about how he could potentially beat both players, the current World No. 4 said, “I think a lot of it depends on the conditions. I think in the right conditions and the right, like if the court has a decent speed, I feel they’re both beatable. I think several players [could beat them], if the right conditions are met, you know, if they’re [Sinner and Alcaraz] not playing their best. In tennis, just the way tennis is… there are small margins.”

“You win the big points, someone’s having a really good serving day, a really good day, they’re [Sinner and Alcaraz] a little bit off, like they’re very beatable,” he added.

“If you want to tell me how beatable they are on their best day, then that’s a little bit different. Yeah, there’s always going to be openings, just depending on the conditions, and if someone has a really good day or a really bad day, it’s possible [to beat them].”

So far in his career, the World No. 4 has never managed to beat Alcaraz, losing all three matches they have played at the ATP tour level. He has played Sinner in five matches, and his only win against the Italian came in 2021, when he triumphed in the Round of 16 of the Indian Wells Masters. Since then, the Italian has gone 4-0 against Fritz.

Taylor Fritz’s Recent Results

After losing in the Wimbledon semifinal, Taylor Fritz kicked off the hardcourt swing by playing at the Citi DC Open. He was the top seed at the tournament, and started with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Aleksandar Vukic. The American then faced Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi and booked his place in the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Here, he faced off against 12th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who was the 12th seed at the tournament last week. The current World No7-6(3), 3-6, 7-5 triumph over Fritz. Fokina eventually progressed to the tournament’s final but was beaten by Alex de Minaur, who took home the title.

Fritz will hope to bounce back from last week’s surprise loss. If he wins on Wednesday, the American will face either 27th seed Gabriel Diallo or Matteo Gigante in the tournament’s third round. Like all the seeds, the second-seeded Fritz received a first-round bye in Toronto.
